Sorry to be subjecting you to second-grade English, but you can't define a word with the word itself.

You can't ASK for a word to be defined in one word without it being the word itself. Define "green" in one word other than "green". Define "dignity" in one word other than "dignity". Define "eggplant" in one word other than "eggplant". Get the picture? There's nothing second-grade English about it. You're setting a pointless exercise.

Atheism doesn't mean ANY of the one word answers people have tried to give you, apart from atheism. It means "without belief in god/s", and it usually means consciously (so a cat can't be atheist). That's about as short as it gets.

Atheism is the same as "Godlessness". Atheist is a "godless person" or like a frog in a well. he thinks there is no other creature but himself and that he came by chance and that the well also just happen to be there or build itself. He looks at the stars in the sky above him and thinks they are only holes on the covering of the well. So if you want to please the frog, just left him alone. Don't spoil his pleasure!

Atheism really depends on the atheist in question.

For some, it would be "Godless"

For others, it would be "Religion-less"

I think the best would be "Non-believer."

But asking for such a broad concept to be simplified down to a single word is not really fair. Can you condense all theists into a single word?
