It`s a change to see anyone claiming we Brits won the World Wars LOL.
Usually it`s misinformed yanks claiming they won it by themselves.
As a student of history and by choice WW2 I KNOW how WW2 was won and by whom!
In actuality if anyone won the war for the Allies it was Hitler.Hitler`s short-sightedness and insistence on calling all the shots himself ,ignoring his General Staff when they suggested alternatives ,invading Russia after signing a non-aggression pact with them and his habit of constantly replacing officers commanding is what ACTUALLY won the war for the allies.
YES America did it`s part before and after Pearl but grudgingly it must be said.
BUT fighting on two fronts is what cost Hitler the war - his best troops were on the Eastern Front for the majority of the war.
Hitler`s bad decisions did the rest :-
Halting outside Dunkirk.
Halting outside Moscow.
Recalling Rommel from Normandy to Berlin (OK technically he was going home for a family birthday)
Etc.
HOWEVER without the two years before Pearl when Britain and her Commonwealth fought Hitler on it`s own during which America sat back getting fat on the proceeds of supplying both sides with arms and other materiel there wouldn`t have been a victory for America to claim as it`s own.

Firstly - you should be referring to "the British" not the English.
Secondly, I am not aware of any British people who think we won either world war without the support of the allies. What I do know is Britain (along with Canada, Australia and New Zealand) stood alone against Hitler for the first three years (1939 - 1941).
Had the USA actually entered the war at the start (instead of turning a blind eye until the attack on Pearl Harbour on 7 December 1941) then the war would have probably been concluded two years earlier than it did, and millions of lives (including 9 million Russians) would have been saved.
Sixty one million people perished during the course of WWII of which 295,000 were American. The free world owes a debt of gratitude to to every allied soldier who fought for freedom.
Please check your facts and quote your sources before making ill judged and facetious comments.

English won both wars by being the main stay, rock and rallying point when others needed it. France and the other European countries broke and were over run. Russia had to fight for it's existence and was helped by the English not the other way round.
America would not even enter the war until it was forced to!
Sounds like you either got a c- at school or will be getting one!

People who don't specifically study history, tend to only remember the ending when Japan surrendered. America had many allies during the war, including Russia, and of course the war had begun several years before America even became overtly involved.

Because the side and cause we were fighting for were victorious. And how many times have we heard this one? Some Americans on this site love to talk about how America "saved Britain's a ss" as if it was them themselves that fought the war not their grandparents. It's been over 60 years, time to stop quarelling over who made the better effort and be glad that Hitler didn't get the chance to murder any more people.

get the history correct, the English dont think they have won any world wars! We celebrate the commonwealth of nations when it comes to the wars. when was the last time the USA built memorials to soldiers from other nations? Australia? NZ? India etc etc etc as well as recognising the efforts of non-commonwealth countries!

it speaks for its self you only have to look what happened when they were on thier own they were forced back into the sea at dunkirk.
it was only the channel that saved the counry and all the brave men that joned the home guard , and the air force , which was helped by foriegn piolots , some of the best piolit thet they had were the poles as they hated the germans , and if it was not for america supplying the food and arm to fight the war . which i think we are still payng them back for.if it was left to just the engilh then it would have been another story. and sorry for forgetting all the other countries that helped as well thanks for you help

And they would still be spelling "speaking" correctly. This war has been over for 61 years. It was a collective effort and the good guys won. That is all that is important.

Everyone obviously had a part in it. But if America wouldnt have jumped in, you would probably be speaking German.
--
I mean dont get me wrong, England has a major role in WWII, but w/o America the war would have been lost. But w/o England, Germany would have taken Europe before America decided to enter. So the way I see it, Britain held off the Nazis until the US entered and drove them back.
Without either, the war would have been lost.
---
Cork- Pick up a book, America has won alot since WWII.
