I'm not asking this to attack anyone's faith. In fact, I am playing devil's advocate to a degree in asking this. I'm just wondering what evidence we have that this book was inspired by God.
And I don't mean to take words out of anyone's mouth, but I'm afraid that a Bible verse that states that all scriptures are inspired by God does not count as evidence. If I wanted to, even I could write a book and then claim that God inspired me to write it. But that wouldn't mean that God really DID inspire me to write it.

Wayne T: I have to admit, a burning bush or a voice from Heaven would be quite convincing. Though, I think I should point out that I never said that the Bible was NOT inspired by God--hence the statement in the above details about playing devil's advocate.
In order to keep this short, I think I'll just ask you what has convinced you that the Bible is the infallible Word of God? And in asking this, I'm assuming that you do believe that, based on the general tone of your answer.
Peace out.

The Bible is a revelation of God to man consisting of sixty-six books bound together and forming one book. Twenty-two of the books of the Bible are mainly historical, twenty-one are largely books of prophecy, twenty-one are in the form of letters, and two are primarily poetic.
Even though written by a least thirty-six different authors who were kings, farmers, mechanics, scientific men, lawyers, generals, fishermen, ministers, and priests, a tax collector, a doctor, some rich and some poor; stretching over a period of 1,600 years, yet the Bible is one book because God was its real author.

I am a history nut. I love to watch the history channel and do so more than my wife would like, but I do get alot of information from it. They had a series on the bible and they wanted to try and determine who wrote it and when and everything else that they could. The best that I can remember, is that the bible was written some 3 or 4 hundred years after the death of Jesus. It was written from the stories that had been handed down for generations so accuracy is not guaranteed.
I personnaly do not believe that what is written in the bible is the absolute truth or the correct religion to follow and I do not follow it. I know that millions of people the world over do follow the words in the bible as the absolute truth and would rather die than to admit that there may be a mistake in there somewhere, and that is their decision.
I am trying to do the research on other religions in the world and so far have decided that there isn't one that should be taken as the absolute truth or the correct religion to follow. There are so many good points that are made in one religion, but with the good comes the bad in the same religion. So I have somewhat decided to not follow the same path that others have followed, and want to follow what I think is right from the different religions collectively.
Please don't hate me or send me messages saying that I am going to hell because I don't believe the same thing or the same way that you do, because that is what most religions do. They tell the people that believe differently that they are wrong and should convert to the way that they think. I don't think that there is any one way that is right and you should investigate the many different religions, because most of them are very similar in many aspects, just a few differences is what separates them.
Go on the net and type in religions and check out the different ones that are out there. Don't just check out the most obvious ones, (Jewish, Muslim, Catholic...) check out the Budist, Hindu and other far eastern religions also some are very appealing.
Good luck to you and your quest to find out the answer. Check www.historychannel.com for the next time the series on the bible comes on, it may help you, and don't go ask a priest or rabbi or somebody else in a particular church for information, because they will be biased towards their own religion.

Cause it says so. Well, okay, I see your point; but you just got to face the fact, the Bible has been considered true by so many people and many of them very learned; so when you read in the Bible that it is the divinely inspired word of God, you must lend some credence to it. And having done that, it's not much of a stretch to actually confirm it -- and don't forget there were many holy prophets in the Bible and every single one of them agreed on this point.
Whatever book you write will not have that kind of clout, so don't even use that analogy.
Having said that, it is likely that there is no God, so your question is moot. I would go so far as to say it's mooter than moot. Ha!

YES the bible is inspired by God AND is 100% true. The only thing that changes is the translations, but the stories and messages are all the same aside from a few word changes here and there, but the meaning is CONSTANT

We know this by the infallible word of the Holy Catholic Church, which compiled the Bible at the end of the 4th Century, discerned and defined once and for all time which writings are divinely inspired and which are not. There is no other way anyone on earth can identify the divinely inspired texts.

What??? You don't believe Pat Robertson, Ted Haggard or Jim Baker's rantings?
There is no evidence. It cannot be proved.
That's why most religions are called a Faith.
In the light of full disclosure, I am a gay ordained minister and follow the Living Word of God, the still small voice inside.
If any of you object to this, I ask you when did God stop communicating with humankind?

The original Bible was inspired by God but once man changes things to suit his idea then it is not Gods. The Bible has been misconstrued by King Constantine at the Council of Nicea. The original followers of Christ had to go into hiding at the time of Christ, and they took the original New Testament with them. It has been found and is now available in English edited by Alan Wauters and Rick Wyhe with Historical Documentation. Read the Gospel of the Nazirenes. (the original New Testament) go to gospelofthenazirenes. for complete details if you are actually seeking truth.

In fact it wasnt. At the council of nicea, which Emperor Constantine called, he gave pardon to all "christian bishops" and then he sat them all down and told them to make a bible. He personally constructed the bible from thousands of different texts. It was there that they DESIDED to make him a god. This was all done not for spiritual reasons, but for political ones. After this, Constantine was worshiped as the savior of christianity and was granted status almost equal to god. Point is that PEOPLE MADE THE BIBLE.

It obviously can't be the work of God unless he is bipolar. The difference between the
God of the old testament and the new is on opposite ends of the spectrum.
One is unconditionally loving the other is a psychopathic killer bent on mass murder.
Sorry there is just no gentle way of saying this.

there are hundreds of bible prophesies that have come true....
one good example... god told moses that the people would not last long int he promised land and would be scattered to all the nations of the earth. He then prophesied that he would bring them back to their original land of Israel in the last days....Deut 4 26-31.. this prediction occured about 4000 years before it happened...in 70 AD they left and in May 1948 they came back.. it came true
another place.. i do not remember where.. it indicated it would be about 2000 years...that is pretty accurate.//

Well, seeing as how the statement "The Bible is the inspired Word of God" can neither be proved nor disproved, there is no empirical evidence. There is also no evidence to the contrary. It is something you believe on faith, or choose not to believe.
