Because they generally are. The Christian religion actually teaches that a person shouldn't tolerate ANYTHING that doesn't fit in with the bible. It even supports murder in some cases with words like "Though shalt not suffer a witch to live".
Atheists have no such restrictions on them. Most Atheists don't have a problem with people having their own religion so long as those people know to keep it to themselves. Its when the religious try to push their religion on others that an Atheist has a problem.

I feel that most atheists are honestly seeking knowledge and information whereas Christians seems to feel they have already attained it. God is knowledge, wisdom and as his follower I feel that I must constantly have an open mind. Christians seem to feel that if they listen and open mindedly examine an issue, they will be denying Christ. I feel that Christ openly welcomes my quest for truth and I am not afraid to examine anything, read about other cultures, religions and to accept the part of truth they have. I also do not feel that I have to confront them to protect God or Jesus. If they are truth, they will stand. Also I understand that non-believers can say things I cannot because they have the freedom of their minds since that is all they believe in. I have to adhere to a higher power and attempt to the best of my understanding and perception to answer accordingly.

Where are you looking to find these intolerant Christians? On TV? The real, day-by-day, in the trenches Christians are not the ones on TV!
Every church has a few bigots, but by and large, most of the believers I know are kind, loving, friendly folks.
Atheists who have tolerant attitudes, have gotten those ideas from our culture, which was founded on Christian principles.

I'm tolerant cause I'm a really sweet guy. As for other atheists, I suspect some of them would deny God even if there were a God, cause they are contrary.
How did you decide that atheists are tolerant? Cause you compared them to church people? Well okay then.

They are more tolerant because they have more reason to be. Without a god telling us what to do, we have to use human reason, something that religious fenatics rarely do. Also they have a bad history that essentially tells them that if they kill stuff, they get their way. (crusaides). Atheists rarely have full out wars (if ever they do). Finally we are a minority, so we need to be nice to all the rejects that christianity has made.

I didn't know that Atheists are tolerant to Christians.
Ask Ben Ladin to turn the other cheek; will you?

because they arent trapped by the brainwashing that happens when you are a christian. they are so willing to fight tooth and nail that they are clean so if they are forgiven of their sins, then they have nothing to feel guilty of and so when they see a non christian they see a person brimming with sins and think unclean. they judge alot. now i consider myself a christian, although ide like to change that label to spirtually enlightened because i can see past the judgemental confines of religion and be more closer to god then most of those people.i live by love example. not by shoving my efs down others throats. thank you

I like to think that it's because atheists don't have a "wrong" list, rather than a "right" list. They don't have it embedded into their brains that homosexuality is a sin, or that Christianity is the only "true" religion.

Because we are a minority that has always been looked down on, and if you live in a mixed world you automatically learn to be tolerant of others, especially when you have to hide who you are.

That really depends on the Christians and Atheists you are speaking of. (not groups but individuals)
