i have 2 books about boxers and both say boxers have lock jaw but do not go much into detail about it

boxers were bred or used for bull baiting, hence their offset jaw and recessed nose so they could hang on to the bulls leg and breathe through their nose.

Dogs can not lock their jaws. They just have strong muscles. And a boxer does have strong muscles like a pit. The only animals I know of that can lock their jaws are snakes, and they lock them open to swallow. Locking a jaw would require a specially shaped jawbone. That is why you can pry open a dog's mouth when he clamps on something. It is all muscle power.

No dog has lock jaw, it's actually a myth.

The only way a dog can get lock jaw is if they get an infection in the jaw line, but this means the dog can not open it's mouth at all.

I think what you're actually referring to is the sheer strength of the jaw in breeds such as Staffies....Staffies actually have great temperments just like any other dog.

Irresponsible breeding creates poor tempermented dogs....breed actually has nothing to do with it, I suggest you head off to do some more research.

this as been one of the things people say about the bully breeds in order to help get them ban. Pit, staffordshire, boxer, or any bully breed or mix as jaws just like other dogs. What makes them so much hard to break a hold is determination. They will hold on that is in thier nature, it as thing to do with the way the jaw is built or one of the other weird things people say about them

I am not sure but I saw this same problem on the Dog Whisperer episode. Caesar also has 2 books out that could probably help. I do know you should not pull them apart, you should put the hose on them. You don't want to get bitten in the process. I'm sure it has something to do with fighting over dominance. Is the fight in over a certain item in the yard or territory? Did you get them at the same time? If not...if dog 2 has more energy than dog 1 who is already established in your home, it can cause lots of problems.Good luck.

Are you reading Dr Seuss books??? No dogs have lock jaw. Stop asking stupid questions. Dogs have strong jaws, but how would they lock them. Do you think they have a special button to push that drops down a secret bone that clamps their mouth shut. People like you need to think long and hard before you talk!

No dog has lock jaw. It is a myth. I have pit bulls and they do not have lock jaw either even though people that have never had a pit swear they do.

No such thing in mammals. Dogs are mistaken to have lock jaws because of the strength in their jaws.
