step 1 - get strong
use heavy weight and low reps 3-5 reps

Step 2 - get big add muscle mass
use 80-90% of what you used in step 1 for 5-8 reps

step 3 - define and tone up
use 60-75% of step 1 for 8-12 reps

hope this helps

More weight/less reps is good to pump up your muscles - make them bigger.

Less weight/more reps is what they recommend for women looking to slim down, because lifting this way makes your muscles leaner.

If you're looking to bulk up, go with more weight, but still do approx 8-10 reps.

MAX OUT the amount of weight you are using to build muscle, even if it means you are doing less reps.

from my understandings here you need to increase the weights i was taught for maximum strength gain you do sets of 4-8 if you can rep out more than 8 increase the weight again. and if you're after size do the exercises slowly doing them fast builds strength and size quick but the muscles "lose their puffiness" when you finish working out. if you feel you can't do any more you've done enough whether or not you do 100reps BUT be cautious you don't overtrain

more weight and less reps is for building

less weight more reps is for cutting or losing weight.

if you trying to build then do 5 reps of the major exercises like deads, clean and press, squats, and bench
