I had eyes tested last week, and was told i needed glasses. The prescription is ;
Right +0.50
Left +0.50 -.0.50 165

What does these numbers actually mean? When should i wear them? Will i notice a difference?
I am a teacher/musician and part time student if that makes any difference!!

You are far-sighted which means that you can see things far away but up close is a little blurry...that is what the + sign means. (if you were nearsighted there would be a - sign in front of the first .50) Your right eye is shaped like a basketball perfectly round. The left eye has astimagtism which means your left eye is shaped like a foot ball...the light rays that help make a picture image are not hitting your eye evenly( the second part of your prescription (-.50) and then the 165 is the correction for the astigmatism. Having an astigmatism is very normal and lots of people have it! your prescription is very mild but new glasses will make everything crisper! And, you should notice a little difference!!! I would get them to help with eye strain!!!

Not too sure, since I was about 11 I have had progressively worse eyesight I am now on -4.75 on each eye. I can defiantly tell when I do not have my lenses /glasses in as everything is just a blur.

On your eye tests try to determine whether you really need them, they are the best for helping your self out with vision, if the edges around letters are distorted or blurred and you cant read them you need glasses.

Trust me it makes a lot of difference when you first get glasses, watching tv or reading books is more enjoyable,

Technically, your vision needs a little correction, but you could get away without specs if you can't be bothered. These glasses will give you a slightly crisper view. Yes, you could ask the optometrist, but remember they are usually opticians too, and want to sell specs to you.

That's something to ask your optometrist. Yes, you do need glasses. I don't think you need to wear them full time, however. You can do eye exercises and they should be fine.

Seems like you should be asking your optometrist those questions.
