Females go into heat about every 6 months. and the heat cycle lasts for 21days.
The heat cycle of the female dog has three parts and lasts about 3 weeks.
The first part lasts anywhere from 3-14 days during which a bloody discharge and swelling of the vaginal area are usually seen.
Next the dog will become receptive to being bred and actively may seek out a male dog. This is the time when she can become pregnant. The discharge may change color at this time and become lighter.
Finally, the discharge will become clearer, the vaginal swelling will diminish and the dog will no longer allow herself to be bred.
While your dog is in heat you must watch her carefully to avoid unwanted breeding and subsequent puppies. If you are not planning on breeding your dog, please have her spayed to help prevent unwanted puppies. I will also lower her risk to several types of cancer.

It relies upon on the dogs like human beings some dogs bleed basically slightly some alot. certainly one of ours basically spots slightly for 3 days and then drips a splash blood for 2 days after that, yet another dogs bleeds heavily for a week and then it slows down some for the 2nd week bye the third she is recognizing yet in especially super quantities. Our final woman bleeds small quantities gradually for all 3 weeks and then spots for yet another week.

The blood should only last a couple days then the discharge will be clear. That is when she is in standing heat.

Mine bled for about 3 weeks. They have doggy diapers-Sounds crazy but its better than blood all over your house
