This is supposed to be used when you have a puncture wound, or bee sting...it draws toxins out. I found a recipe for it which calls for activated charcoal powder - a lot of it. This stuff is like working with pure coal, it turns everything black. Is there another ingrediant I could use?

Oh my gosh...black salve,,,I didn't think anyone in this hemiphere knew about that. It is a very old medication to draw out infected wounds. It's called icthymol ointment..ask your pharmacist if he has any. I wouldn't use it on a puncture would...depending on what the wound was made by, there may be bacteria trapped down inside of it...also don't use iodine on a puncture wound....it will burn those inside tissues. I wouldn't mess with making icthymol...I don't believe it is very expensive. There are ingredients that make the black salve easy to apply, and just plain charcoal isn't good, because it isn't sterile, and you're not working under sterile conditions making it.

You may have never heard of this before, but I have had really good outcomes from taking some regular white bread and putting a tiny amount of water on it, and taping it to the area. It took the pain out of a bee sting. And removed the problems that were beginning to occur after I was scratched by my Cat. Give it a try, can't hurt. The trick is a very small amount of water on a one inch by one inch square of bread. Then tape it down really good. Worked for me several times. Oh I forgot, it even took care of a tooth ache.

Best Wishes

You can easily buy it at Wal-Mart in the pharmacy section, and it's very cheap. I'll try to spell it for you: Ichmmeol . It is spelled something like that. I can pronounce it but I sure can't spell it. Just go to the pharmacy section and ask if they have it in stock. Best of luck to you.
