Smoked salmon is eaten "as is",no cooking required. Roll it up with cream cheese and herbs,or just natural. Smoked salmon is usually bought already very thinly sliced,Traditional english way is thin melba toast,or crackers, thinly sliced red/spanish onions,Horseradish cream, and Capers. Delish. I have had in Washington what the Americans/Jews call LOX in USA,I belieive its the same animal? Raw salmon on the other hand tastes ghastly,a stong fishy taste, and the best way is just seared over fire on in a pan. Add condiments to taste while cooking,or an exotic sauce. Serve only "just" cooked in the middle, and do not overcook. Also Delish!!! Strangley here in Australia the smoked salmon is a bit cheaper than the raw product. Although you pay around A$27 a kilo, there is no waste, you eat it all, even the crispy skin if you are cooking the raw product .

Smoked Salmon is smoked either in a hot or cold smoker and Gravlaks is cured using salt, sugar, and dill... it's also pronounced differently in different countries...

Gravlax (Swedish),
Graved laks (Danish),
Gravlaks (Norwegian),
Graavilohi (Finnish),
and Graflax (Icelandic)

Hope this answers your question

gradvalax or gravlax (apparently these days we drop the d and the a) is also salmon but instead of smoking it you cure it with dill and usually pepper - see recipe link below

I'm making a smoked salmon parcel with hot smoked trout, dill, chive cream cheese, lemon juice and seasoning in the middle served with irish soda bread. One of my friends is doing goats cheese and red onion tarts and another buttenut squash soup.

PS shouldnt sainsburys know all this stuff?

One's over-priced and the other is even worse. Stick for soup as openers!
