Because I'm from Eastern Europe, we celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve.

I shall be doing a cold table of various meats - kassler, pastrami, different salamis, ham that I cooked myself, etc - and salads like marinated artichokes, avocado, tomatoes and mozzarella. This is not at all Eastern European - I'm cosmopolitan! - but we'll follow that with a beef broth that I've just made, the meat being minced (ground) and flavoured with onions, then being made into sausage rolls with puff pastry. Served piping hot and golden, with a cup of the bouillon.

After this, we'll light the candles (yes, real ones which I've always had throughout my life) on the tree to signify the great light coming on in the world. We'll drink a toast to Christ's birth with carols playing, and someone will be chosen to be Father Christmas and give out the presents.

We'll find an old church to visit for Midnight Mass, then return home and rest for Christmas Day.

On Christmas Day we'll talk and play games, and will eat the big Christmas Dinner with all the trimmings at about 3-4 pm.

For me it is tradionally something very simple. A comfort food recipe from my childhood my mother created called Hamburger Pie made with , campbell's tomato soup, french cut green beans, ground beef , heated in a pan (sometimes we add onions too), then put in a casserole dish, completely topped with fresh made mashed potatoes and some butter on top to help brown the potatoes then baked in the oven and served with grated cheddar cheese on top. Nothing fancy or stressful but it always reminds me of her and now my little girl is looking forward to it too. Then we have time for church or driving around to look at outdoor Christmas lights and decorations while we listen to Christmas music in the car, then stories , dessert or Christmas shows when we get back. It takes away the stress going simple that evening and allows us to celebrate the joy of that very special night.

We go to my mothers.

We usually have fresh crab and french bread & salad- Not a heavy dinner.

A San Franciso tradition.

We have a light dessert or none at all.

Christmas dinner is usually is a " heavy larger feast"

Before dinner we'll have rotolo on tiny toast..warmed in the oven and sliced ittalian sausage on crackers. Lots of good wine too!!

We usually just snack all day Christmas Eve. I don't cook a lot for Christmas Eve because I have to cook all the food for Christmas day for all of my family and friends. So there for I do not cook Christmas Eve. One of my neighbors throws a big bash for every one and we will stop by there and eat. They are really good cooks.

Nothin' much. There's enough weight to be gained with Christmas supper alone. :) All the family usually has a light supper, then we play board/card games and have a few drinks.
