Most of your answerers are confused and think you have fruit flies. You have fungus gnats. There are a few things you can do--you may be overwatering your plants; if you can, stop watering them for a few weeks. Try to find some Bt, which is a soil bacterium that will kill the gnat larvae. A local nursery or hardware store, or maybe ag department or extension office, may be able to help.

Well, there are many ways. But with the ways, you have to be cautious. One of the best ways, if you dont have pets, is to lay down an insecticide. The "ortho" brand has many pesiticides you can you. Also you can get benificial insects that will eat the gnats. There is also a number or organic pesticides that will work as well. It's all a matter of how bad they are, if they are just starting out, its best to get something done now. Also, what type of house plant do you have? I hope this helps. Take care, bye:)

The only thing I have found to hold true is removing their food source. Unfortunately I don't know the answer to keeping them away from your plants, but simply keeping your house very clean is the only way to get rid of them in general. I had a problem with them last year and no matter the bug spray, no matter what measures I went to, simply keeping everything as clean as possible got rid of them within two days.

Take a little apple cider vinegar in a saucer. Now stir in a couple of drops of dish detergent. set this next to the plants and soon there will be many dead gnats in it.

I had them nasty things forever this fall. Bleach does not work. You need to keep fruit, bread, etc in the refridgerator to start. Keep your sinks clean of food, dishes, etc. I actually would spray bug killer down the drain. They also like to hang out in the garbage can, so I would spray that also. I still would have a few so I would spray them with windex and that would drop them and I would smash them with paper towels. It took awhile, but I finally got rid of them. I hope I dont get them next year. They are a pain. Good Luck!!!
