Crate train it

Some people on this site are so STUPID AND CRUEL, you must NEVER rub a dogs nose in his mess. Would you do that to a toddler when you are potty training them no I don't suppose you would. All you do is keep taking it outside and praising it when it does it's biz they soon get the idea most pups will keep having accidents untill they're about a year old. Most don't but some are slow learners. You can invest in some toilteing pads from your pet stoor it has a scent in it that attracts the puppy to go to the loo on it. Just gradually move that towards the back door and he'll get the idea eventually. My puppy is 14 weeks old now and has the occasional pee indoors but it's to be expected it's usually my fault for being sidetracked and not taking him outside enough. It's never the dogs fault if he is unsure where the loo is. Mine are all crate trained and they get on really well with it and have a great routine so they know when toilet time is etc. Routine is the key. You may find that you spend most of your time in the garden with the dog but he will get the idea quicker. Positive training is far better than negitive.

Hi, I also have a brandnew Puppy- He is 9 weeks old- I have found taking him outside as much as I can is helping- I have theose training pads for the house and news paper in the Garage- the key wee times are- after waking up, after food, after a big play, and after walks. Puppys cannot hold it at all they will have accidents. Also when he wee's in the wrong place do not pay attention to him- just clean it and ignore him for 5 minutes- if he wee's outside then go insane with love and cuddles and praise- he will soon learn it is cool to wee in the right place.
Its all about training them.... it the only way he will stop. Hope this helps you.
PS: NEVER RUB HIS FACE IN IT!!! IT WILL NOT HELP ONE BIT!!! ( I just read the replies)

Laura, Put the dog in a crate just big enough for it to sleep. Make sure you keep the dog in there when you are not home or are sleeping. As soon as you get home, take it outside to go. The puppy will not want to pee where it sleeps. This process, if done consistently, will not take long.
Don't bother with rubbing the nose in it. The puppy wont have a clue as to why you are doing that to it.
Make sure the crate is not so big that the puppy can pee in one coner and sleep in the other.

feed him twice a day at specific times each day, then take his food away, until next feeding. then immediately afterwards, take him outside, and don't let him in until he goes, both piddles and poops. When ever you come home, take him out to go as well. And praise him when he does go outside. He will learn this is where and when he is to go, and associateitwith the praise. also, remove anything he has piddled on, because the smell remains, and he will associate this with his bathroom. If he has used the carpet, get it thoroughly cleaned and use one of those sprays or solutions that kills the odor. It should probably take about 3 or 4 weeks for him to get the system down, but it should work, as long as YOU stick to theschedule, and don't feed him between times. then in a few months, when he gets things down, you can put dry food and water out for him all the time

Watch for the signs that your puppy needs to "go". Take it outside regularly, especially after it eats, and when it does its business, praise it and/or give a treat. Inside make a special place with absorbent pads and/or newspaper where it can "go" during the night or in an emergency. Make sure the puppy knows where the place is.

use newspaper and move it near the door where you want the dog to toilet, eventually your dog will go outside for the toilet. but it isn't unusual for dogs sometimes at the age of 1 year to still have "accidents" during the night. you can get some really good sprays to totally get rid of the wee smell so the dog doesn't go there again

Well your puppy has to be trained for starters. Try the training mats you can get from the pet shop, they are scented and the puppy will use them, they are disposable. Keep them near the back door so every time he goes to the mat just let him out, he will soon learn.

When you go to Pets-Mart or any pet store there usually have something called pee pads. They come in designs and they are also plain. You lay them on the floor and the bring the dog over to the pee pad and say," Potty Here!" Then rub he/shes face in it. Then after a couple of months like maybe six or seven months old take he/she away from the pads and take he/she outside and put he/shes face to the ground and say, " Potty Here!" That worked for my Jack Russell Terrier and if its a boy try to make sure that it knows to pee on the pad.
sincerely,
