Did Islam's Allah create mountains to prevent the earth from shaking?

Question

Quran 31:10 “He created the heavens without any pillars that ye can see; He set on the earth mountains standing firm, LEST IT SHOULD SHAKE WITH YOU; and He scattered through it beasts of all kinds. Unfortunately, the earth does shake so, if Allah did create mountains to prevent the earth from shaking, he did a horrible job. Mountains themselves shake plenty, and when they do, avalanches or falling rick or exploding volcanoes can result.

Needless to say, this verse in the Quran is false, and stupid, even by the standards of ignorant desert people back in Muhammad's time.

"and produce on the earth every kind of noble creature, in pairs". Sorry, thats false as well because there are 'some kinds' of creatures that are 'produced' asexually. Some lizard species. Some bee species. No pairs.

Have We not made the earth as a wide expanse And the mountains

The mountains play an important role in stabilizing the crust of the earth. That Mountains have underlying roots.

Modern earth sciences have proven that mountains have deep roots under the surface of the ground.

Likewise the Modern theory of plate tectonics holds that has just begun to be understood in the framework of plate tectonics since the late 1960’s
mountains work as stabilizers for the earth

WOW absolutely unbelievable!

While I can see the point made about "noble creatures" and how it would refute your "produced asexually" point, I can not for the mind of me even begin to understand how someone can be so HELL bent on proving their point as to not see the obvious.

Take the phrase, "He SET on earth mountains standing firm".

That statement implies mountains were created sometime after the heavens and earth, then mountains were set on top of earth to prevent earths shaking.

Would someone, preferably a Muslim explain to me how that statement can go hand in hand with the scientific theory of how mountains are formed?

Mountains are formed on earth not placed or set on earth. They are formed on earth do to the collision of multiple tectonic plates.

Old religious books are filled with old world explanations for things that were beyond human comprehension in their time. I try not to attack people for their religious beliefs. I accept and have faith in a God that I know precious little about, and try not to let man get between that God and me. It is man that messes everything up. Cucumbers, flowers and the rare exception of some lizards is not enough to constitute the norm and obviously they aren't noble then. Peace :)

I don't know if you've ever studied any kind of physics or geology, but the mountains do in fact hold the Earth down! Without them the Earth would shake uncontrollably!

That verse you quoted doesn't say that mountains stop the Earth from shaking completely; it just says it holds the Earth down "lest it shoud shake with you" (meaning it would shake violently)!
