They can not be the same God they are not in agreement. The Christian God created man knowing he was sinful but God is righteous and can not be in agreement with sin therefore the wages of sin is death. God loved man even though man sinned so he had a plan of salvation for him from the begining and that plan was to come to the world in the form of man and to overcome sin and remain perfect and offer himself in our place to atone for our sin. The Muslim god Allah simply says if you repent and make restitution you are righteous....The Christian God says you are not and only he is righteous and he paid the penalty of death for us. The Muslims deny the teachings of the word of God and follow the teachings of a dead man.

The main difference in Islam and Christianity is the fact that Moslems do not believe that Jesus is Gods one and only son. They believe that Jesus was a man, a prophet of God, not his son. Islam also teaches that there was no crusifixion, therefore no Trinity.
In Christianity most are taught that you must believe that Jesus is the only begotten son of god, and that he was sent to die on the cross to forgive mankind of their sins. If you do not believe in this then you are not to have "everlasting life" John 3:16
Islam believes in one true God with no divisions of that God ie the Trinity. Islam also teaches that Muhammed was a prophet of God and brought with him the last words of advice from God.
These are the major differences in the two religions.

Islam, Christianity and Judaism are all Abrahamic religions - that is, they all are descended from the beliefs of Abraham in one God and only one God. Yes, it is the same God.
The differences between Christianity and Islam include several "good" versus "happy" kind of differences (in other words, footnotes, not the real text). The only major difference is the divinity of Jesus. Muslims hold that Jesus (Esa in Arabic) never claimed to be divine, and was a great prophet. Read the Sura of Miriam in the Holy Quran - it reads almost like a rendition of the Gospel according to Luke. In fact, the only real difference is in the last line of the Sura of Miriam - "And he was a man."
Allah is the Arabic word for God, just as Gott is in German or Dios in Spanish. Just because someone says "Dios" does not mean she or he believes in a different God. Same with Allah.
Islam holds that all monotheists believe in the same God; logic leads me to the same conclusion. Islam holds that Muslims must respect a "People of the Book," monotheists who have a God-given text. This includes Christians, Jews and Zoroastrians. Mohammed (PBUH) himself sponsored a Christian monastery.
I consider myself an Islamic Christian. I believe that Jesus was the Christ, was God made Man, and died for my sins, and that salvation is only achievable through Him. I also believe that there is no God but Allah, and Mohammed is His prophet.

First, the God of Christianity is NOT the god of islam. Islam specifically denies and rejects the divine nature of Jesus. Since Jesus and God are "one", then islam denies the divine nature of the one true God. Hence, islam worships a false god.
They did not "divide from each other". One is faith in the one true God. The other was invented by Muhammed.
