The question is, once I buy it do I need any further wires or anything to watch TV, excluding cable?

Nope, you're all set just the way it comes. Simply attach the coax from either your cable provider or an antenna, run through the set-up instructions as listed in the owners manual to properly configure your channels and such then sit back and enjoy! By the way, judging by the positive customer reviews it's received it seems you've chosen wisely so enjoy and have a great week end.

Depends what is your TV source.
If it is cable (with no set-top box) , your are all set.
If it is a set-top box (cable or satellite) it all depends on your set-top box. Most HD-capable set-top boxes now support HDMI and component out. Check the back of your set-top box.
