She always tells us to come over but when we do we just sit on the couch and she never makes dinner and there is nothing to eat. Then I talk to her and she acts like I am bothering her. We also have to drive an hour over. Would you stop going over or say something?

I would say something, and maybe make suggestions on doing something out of the house. Like go for a walk or hang at the park.

She sounds lonely to me. Maybe she's trying to drop hints in a roundabout way. It's difficult to offer suggestions when I'm not sure of your situation but why don't you invite her to yours for dinner instead if she can drive? Or you could drive up and take her out to dinner instead. Alternatively, if you have the room, why not invite her to stay the weekend? Do you visit her often or is her detachment when you do visit putting you off? Does she have a good friend/s you could have a chat with who might shed some light on the situation?

Don't give up on her. Try approaching her again or maybe your husband could go up to see her one day on his own and have a chat? She may open up to him.

Good luck!

More than likely shes only doing this to please her son, and she may be jealou of your relationship so she treats you as an outsider, just ignore her actions anyways, its your husband who you need to keep happy, not her, just talk to him about how you feel and if her could tell her that her actions are unexcusable and that any disrespect she gives to you, shes giving him, since you are both married you two also need to set boundaries, dont go over EVERY time she calls, shes using that to try and get you fed up with your husband + the cold shoulder shes giving you, it proves it even more, so just be happy with your husband and blow her off too, dont be a doormat

I would tell your husband that you don't want to go. If you have a husband like my brother. He will kiss your a** and ditch his family. Try having a sister in law like that for 16yrs.
Same old Same old every year. You finally just get numb and don't give a sh**

Take dinner to her and take charge if she doesn't want to participate, then enjoy the meal and long ride with your husband never once complaining, allow her to think of how foolish she has been acting. (Believe me she will!) You'll always catch more with honey then vinegar. Stay level headed, your husband will appreciate your efforts.

My mother used to do this to my wife all the time. She wanted to see me and probably would have preferred that I come alone, which I would not do. No matter what my wife did or said it wasn't good enough. Eventually I had to step up and explain to my mother that if she wanted to continue seeing me and the grandchildren then she needed to change her ways, and she did.
But until she did we stopped going to her house. I could not ask my wife to go somewhere she wasn't welcome.

So try starting a conversation with her. Maybe she doesn't know what to say to you. Or maybe she just wants the company. Follow her lead. If she's silent, just chill.
