I started out in a Baptist church. I think that talking in tongues scared me for awhile from all I had been told. Then I went to a ladies retreat with a friend and was Blessed with The Holy Spirit. WOW!!! I have since left the Baptist church, but not my belief in God and His word.

Pentecostals do NOT believe you MUST speak in tongues. It is simply a gift of the Holy Spirit that anyone can receive if they ask for it. Pentecostals believe in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I've been to both Baptist and Pentecostal churches, and based on my own experiences in them, I'd say the biggest difference is the outward expression of praise. Pentecostals aren't concerned with what people will think of them if they're running around the pews clapping when they're filled with the Holy Spirit. Baptists often are (of course, this is a generalization).

Old School Pentecostals also have really strict ideas of how one should go about living. Drinking is usually out of the question. Baptists just buy their liquor from the next county over.

Pentecostal women CAN cut their hair and wear pants. Lots of people think Pentecostals don't allow it, but they're thinking of a different denomination. They're also NOT into charming snakes, even though that's often attributed to them as well. The people who play with snakes are charismatic.

Pentecostals speak in tongues. Some Baptists speak in tongues, too. But not all of them. All Pentecostals whom I know believe in Trinity. Though there are groups who do not. A Pentecostal service is not nessecarily very emotional. Though there are many chruches where this is the case.

1st to latter_rain276, the church age is STILL going, and the church STILL saves! If you actually believe in Harold Campings teaching, then you are the one in delusion.

Now to answer the question. Pentecostals believe that once a person gets saved they will speak in tongues. If you do not or cannot speak in tongues, in their eyes you are not saved. Pentecostals also believe you can lose your salvation. In a Baptist church, they do not believe in speaking in tongues. They believe that you can only be baptised by full immersion under water, and they believe you cannot lose your salvation.

Ive been to both churches, Pentecostals believe in the fullness of the Spirit spoken of in the bible. Speaking in tongues, interpretation, word of knowledge, word of wisdom, prophesy etc. The Baptists think that all died out in the bible days.

Baptists are trinitarian, Pentecostals are oneness. Baptists do not believe in speaking in tongues, Pentecostals do and believe you must as evidence of salvation. Many theological differences.

Dear Hill girl,

The fact of the matter is that the church age ended in 1988. The Holy Spirit has departed from ALL local churches and congregations so that it is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to be saved there regardless of the accuracy of the preaching (2 Thessalonians 2). Satan is now ruling in all local churches and that is why the Lord is commanding the true believers to come out (Matthew 24:15, 16). Those who remain in the churches are being sent a strong delusion that they might believe the lie and be damned. The churches have become Babyon, the dominion of satan (Revelation 18).
Start reading your Bible slowly and prayerfully asking the Lord to have mercy on you.

They are both confused people. They follow their religious ways of their doctrine and not the way of Jesus Christ.
There is only one true church. Denominations are of men and totally confuse the true word of God.
God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Show me where there are all these different denominations in the Bible. They simply don't exist.
There is ONLY one God, The Lord Jesus Christ, and ONE CHURCH, period. NO DENOMINATIONS. All these denominations is the reason we have so much strife in the church.
Read your Bible. God is coming back after his CHURCH (singular) not plural (churches) as men will lead you to believe.
The Gospel is that Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and rose again the 3rd day. That is the Gospel, there is no other. If any church or man teaches you a different doctrine than that you should run as fast as you can. Where God is there is liberty.
The Gospel is what we are to believe, and learn to rely on, trust in and adhere to. Its that simple.
