I have a Shitzu (male) and I am having many problems. How often should you take a Shitzu out? What is the best way to train Shitzu to go to the bathroom outside? Please help!

I have 2 tzu's, and they are as different as night and day. One is the absolute best with no problems at all with house training, the other has his moments of being good, and having accidents. Although he is better than he used to be, he is still not perfect. I found that possitive reinforcement works the best with tzu's. Let the dog know you are extremely happy when he goes outside. Pay lots of attention to him, I found treats work real well, and my neighbors think I am nuts when I do the "happy potty dance" when he goes outside!!! But I think you get the picture! When he has a mistake, be upset and angry at what he did, not the dog. Yell at the spot...be angry at the mess you have to clean up. My tzu's are about 3 years old, and I take them out 2-3 times a day. But they also have a pet door that they can go out when they need or want to.
Tzu's can be very stubburn, but once they know that you are the boss, and know what makes you happy, they will learn, at least my one is catching on pretty fast.
Another suggestion is they do make "belly bands' for small dogs. They are available at most pet stores. They wrap around the dog over his "winkie" and you put a disposable pad inside to catch the urine if he goes.
Last, but certainly not least is make sure you clean all the messes very thoroughly. Use an enzyme based cleaner. I use Natures Miracle to clean. You HAVE to get the scent completely out or he will use the same spot again. You may not smell it, but he will.
Just be patient, persistant and loving...he will catch on, all he wants from you is your love and happiness.

You don't they are evil little devils. Well maybe you should try something. Perhaps put her/ him in a crate made for dogs. only take him out when you have time to play with her/ him constantly without any distractions or when you put it outside to use potty. Try this for a week. Then give it more room with supervision. Etc. etc. they won't usually go potty in their bed so this will help her/ him to learn outside is where they should potty.
