I'm not sure if this would cause food poisoning or not, but it will definitely make the brownies taste yucky! Do yourself a favor and spend the 99 cents on another stick of butter!

The fats in the butter will have melted and turned back into solid, it can go rancid. The quality of the butter imparts itself to the brownies. You can end up with greasy brownies.

I've left it out a whole day then baked with it and it was fine. I dont know about a couple days though. Its made with cream, and that being a dairy product, I dont think it would be a good idea to leave it out too long.

No it is not OK. Butter should be kept in the fridge at all times, otherwise it may cause poisoning.

for sure it is ok - the only way butter gets bad is if it is left out a LONG time (like over a week - likely closer to 2 or 3) and it gets rancid - it produces an acid called Butyric Acid - you can smell it - so if your butter still SMELLS good? it is good. that bad smell is the clue to it being bad. True.

Butter is just fine unless the weather is really hot and then you run the risk of it becoming rancid as would any oil.

absolutely NOT and you should not ever get into the habit of doing that to any food that has to be refrigerated....ask some of the people that live in third world countries........
