Depends on the size of the donation. I give to a mix of very small local organizations and to some national ones. I generally search out organizations that are not one of the "charities de jeur" for the American Public and donate to some of them.

My real life example would be to donate to Whats Up, Conscious Consuming, Elgeston Square Main Street and the Lucy Parsons Center here in Boston and to the Center for a New American Dream, Grassroots International, Organic Consumers Association and Co-op America nationally.

Those organizations have diverse missions but collectively they are social change organizations working to make things better. Another world is possible!

Check out the website Kiva.org. It is not really a charity but any money that you give will go directly to those who need it. The money that you give will be used to help people in poor Countries start up businesses, which will eventually help the poor people to have a better standard of living.

I would donate to Right to Life, Bethany House (for pregnant teens-a Christian place), & other organizations which/that support pro-life, sex before marriage, Focus on the Family political fights, & such programs. There is SO MUCH immorality in this world, & it needs addressed a lot.
