My sister got the bright idea to label all of our dvd's with Sharpie markers, not the burned discs, just the normal ones (i.e. Dumbo). How do I get the markings off w/o taking off the normal labels too? I read that you can use dry erase markers, but I'm not sure if that'll damage the original labels. Anybody know for sure?

I've actually used the Sharpie to get the marks off. You rub over the dried marker and BEFORE IT DRIES AGAIN (just wanted to emphasize it so you don't make a bigger mess), wipe it off with a tissue or paper towel (have them ready before you start!). Just do a little at a time -- not the whole label at once. You may not get it all off, but there's a lot less to contend with. You might start with this and use the alcohol to finish the job.

I don't know about isopropyl alcohol, but ethyl alcohol works very well, too. It's excellent on most materials that are used in electronics and doesn't damage them. It might also take more off than what you want/need -- it's a very good solvent.

Good Luck!

Try using some Isoproply Rubbing Alcohol and use a Q-tip - trying removing just one letter or marking and see what happens. It works on blank dvds that I've marked incorrectly (home burned dvd's) - that is why I say, just try removing a bit of a letter gently and take it from there.
