We have a woman who lives with us, she's a friend of my parents, and has no where else to go. In her 50's, her kids deserted her, and she recently lost her youngest in a plane crash. She has health issues and cant work, so we just take care of her.

I know it sounds like a free loading situation, but its not like that. Theres more to it than the above, but it comes down to us providing for her, and her feeling really bad that she has no other alternative at this point. I mean, she feels so bad that she never comes out of her room. EVER. she's perfectly mobile, but she NEVER comes out. just to pee.

Anyway, she eats the WORST things.... like, for a few weeks she might just eat avacados, or just lettuce, or just roasted chickens. Literally tahts all she'll eat, all day.

She eats garlic powder and onion powder on EVERYTHING, and usually its not that big of a deal, but lately, for a week at a time, she'll do stints of canned salmon on lettuce and DRENCHED in garlic and onion powder.

Anyway, her breath gets SO BAD, that the ENTIRE house REEKS. At first i thought it was her garbage, or maybe her dishes. But then she came out of her room and was talking on the phone, and it literally almost knocked me over.

Ive never expereinced anything like this before. Its so bad that just her BREATHING stinks up the whole house.

She just came in from me sending her out to buy herself groceries... and now the entire first floor REEKS. Its so bad its literally making me sick.

I usualy have to leave the house whenever she comes downstairs on the days shes eating this canned salmon/garlic onion powder crap.

Plus iam pregnant, so the smells are ever worse.

Has anyone else EVER delt with something like this?

She'd die if i ever said anything, but its soooo bad, and its too cold outside to air the house out. God its wretched. Everything reeks.

How do you handle something like this?

How can she not notice that she smells so bad? I mean even people who walk in off the street can smell it....

How can she not notice?

Her room is next to the nursery, with a door inbetween... and its so bad at times that the stench eeks into the baby's room through that door, just from her being in there!

AHHHHH!!

lol.
there was this girl i went to school with,
and she had the worst b.o. ever and she literally smelled worse than a guy all day long,
we sat her down, and just as nice as we could think of, told her what was wrong,

there is no easy way to tell people,
but i personally would rather have someone be honest with me.

Well, for the last question first: She probably doesn't know because it's with her all the time and your nose gets used to something like that. The same way some women drown in perfume. They wear the same scent, and can't smell it after a while, so more doesnt' bother them.

You can nicely tell her that 'with your pregnancy', the odor of her food is nearly killing you - use the pregnancy as an excuse. Tell her you can smell it all over the house, and you'd appreciate it if she'd find something else to eat for a while. She's obviously been pregnant, knows the effects of pregnancy vary, and should be sympathetic.

Now for the real issue. She needs to find a place to live of her own. Then she won't be feeling so bad all the time. There is plenty of housing, in most civilized places, for people with disabilities and/or low income. Help her find some. You'll be doing ALL of you a favor!

If she's been eating garlic and onions for some time now she's probably immune to her own stench. That's quite common, thought I've not heard of such a bad case... Is there anyone living in the house with you, and if so does that person feel the scent as much as you do - because when you are pregnant your senses are more sensitive (I'm not sure, something that I've heard!), so you may actually sense it more than what it is.

As for overcoming your dilemma, try and change her daily routine - get her out of her room and change her eating habits! Make her more involved with the house chores. The first few days will be impossible, but it'll improve with your help. All the best.

Hold your breath.

Or gently explain that brushing your teeth is essential for a healthy mouth.
