I notice that several people berated this question because "not everyone lives near the border". Well, many border patrol agents come from areas well away from the border. There are agents serving who were recruited from Chicago, New York City, Boston and everywhere in between.
Having said that though, there are only so many openings. I would encourage everyone who is interested and qualified to apply but you can't expect everyone to be a border patrol agent. In addition to the entrance requirements the training standards are tough.
However, if you can't be a border patrol agent then there are other ways to help.
1. Don't let the illegal immigrant activists be the only voice heard. They will cry the loudest. Get out to local meetings and protests.
2. Read. Educate yourself in not just the grandiose subject matter but the intricate details of the topic as well. You can also listen to any one of a number of radio and talk-show personalities that will gladly speak on the subject. However, don't let them give you an opinion. Ignore their opinions and look for the facts they have.
3. Right letters to the editors of local magazines. Be willing to use the knowledge you've gained.
4. Right you local politicians. Let them know that there are firmly grounded, good, honest people in this country that are tired of being victimized by the presence of illegal aliens. Cite examples of illegal alien crime statistics, medical expenditures by both tax supported funds and private funds that are diluted by helping illegal aliens, dilution of education funding, etc.
5. Educate others through open forums such as this one.

The reason, is that we are citizens of a country that reverse laws and order. We are being infiltrated by people who are not from cultures of law and order. As much so at least.
If you have a sizable chunk of gold stashed under your matress, would you want to disrupt what you got? It's going to have to be somthing that kills peoples hopes for the future. Question is: What you hope to be and what really becomes, may be quite different things. I hear your pain, bu bu. But it's not time. All we can do is fake it and write the reps. Or leave.
Something is going to change thought soon. I can see some very negative things going on and with out a major fight out, nothing will be done. In the end, the illegals will kill the deal and we will still have to deal with their stinking dread. Not that their are not nice people and all ...they just come from 3rd world circumstances. The middle class will have to pay for this. That's what I see and why I thing I should leave.

You said you volunteered but not that you were excepted. Were you? And what great benefit will that bring to the cause.
Until we force our congress to begin denying benefits to illegal immigrants what as always happened will continue.
If you were in Mexico and you knew that you could have a better life just across that border and you find a way to do it what would you do?
The US government and the Mexican Government must begin to work together on this. Consider Canada. On our Border but do we consider them a threat? Do we consider Canadian people who come across our border a problem. Of course not. With very good reason. Government.

I would like to do more than I am but its hard to just make a living and raise 2 kids.I think it is like that for most Americans,we are just trying to make ends meet, only recently more of us are realizing that our government is not doing there jobs.I have joined a yahoo group to share ideas with others who are against illegals, because when we make posts on yahoo answers the illegas turn us in for violations, and say we are racist. We would like you to join our team and share your views check out our forum http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AmericanCitizensAgainstPro-illegals/#ans

Everyone who is against illegal immigration can't just quit their jobs and move down there. I applaud those who can, I, on the other hand, have my job, home and family here. We must fight illegal immigration in any way we can. We can 'support' our Minutemen and Border Patrol, write and e-mail our state representatives, talk to our friends, neighbors, families, and co-workers about the issue, encourage others to take a stand against illegal immigration, report any we know of, expose companies that hire them, etc. We ALL can't be down at the border, but we will stand up against it in other ways. Keep up the good work. We all work together as a network. YOU have OUR support, how about giving US "yours"?

I'm not on the border but I donated for the fence and donate to other organizations who are fighting this like FAIR and ALIPAC. I write and call constantly and keep myself informed and do what I can.

I agree with you, and believe me I do my share, but if the country does not try and do something themselves, and stick to it, when what recourse do we have on a legal stand?? Yes, we can see and illegal and shoot them on site, but that does not help us, it will be one illegal dead and one citizen in jail. We can also go out and do what the Minute Men are doing, but if they get hurt in trying to report or detain illegals, who covers the bill, and how much "protection" with the U.S. gov't give them????? Like I said I do agree with you, but what options do we have thats legal. joining the Border Patrol is a good one, but not everyone can join, and what about that Illegal alien that joined the Border Patrol and was an agent for a few years and somehow they found out he was an illegal and they fired and deported him????

Great question.
I looked into the career some 25 years ago. Didn't think I could pass the physical requirements to join. Very good career for those interested in serving down south or norte'

You are making the assumption that all illegals are coming across the Mexican border. I don't live anywhere near the border, but I can make my voice known to my local representatives.
