Dogs are more so omnivores than carnivores. They need a balanced diet of meat vs. a certain percentage of vegetables. Raw meats aren't harmful to dogs, but eating only raw meat wouldn't provide them with the balanced diet they should have. Some owners/breeders feed their dogs Biologically Appropriate Raw Food (carefully prepared and proportioned raw meat, bone meals, vegetables, and vitamins) and it's perfectly fine and healthy for them.

s.A rule of thumb, if you want to feed dogs commercial dog food, is to avoid those including meat/animal by-products and corn such as Iams, Science Diet, etc. Stick with the one who's ingredient list is short, and includes pronounceable meat/vegetable/grain names. The way I choose my dogs' food is, if there are things in the ingredient list that I won't put in my plate, I sure won't put it in my dogs' bowls.

Dogs are omnivores. Many people do beleive in a raw meat diet, with other food as well. My sister in law is a vet and she feeds all of their dogs (4 of them) a diet of raw meat (usually chicken), rice, cheese, and vegetables. These dogs are always in perfect health and also the most well behaved that I have ever seen. It is too expensive and too much of a pain for my dog, but if you are interested you can find out lots of good info online.

No, domesticated dogs are not carnivores that need raw meat. They need a well balanced diet to be healthy, they have different nutritional needs than people. The best thing for them is dog food and there are many choices. Some good brands are Eukanuba, Iams, Hills.

Raw meat can carry parasites and bacteria which can make your dog sick. Cook the meat thoroughly to kill the harmful parasites and bacteria, as if you were going to eat it. Don't feed your dog JUST cooked meat. Dog food from a pet store is the best choice because they have more vitamins.

I believe they are carnivores. They generally dont eat plants so they arent obnivores. They can have meat as treats and stuff but dog food is the best choice.

The dog is a mammal in the order Carnivora. Dogs were domesticated from wolves. Dogs dont eat salads. You shouldnt try to push your lifestyle on the poor dog. Shame on you!

I have heard that it isn't good for them, but my dog ate ten raw hamber patties one day right before I got ready to cook them (bad dog), but he is fine. If wolves can eat raw meat, I really don't see why dogs shouldn't.

Domesticated dogs have become omnivores, and the most appropriate diet for them (to maintain good health) is dry dogfood.

Like man, they are omnivores leaning towards carnivores.

Dogs like man need animal proteins in their diets. No tofu burgers for my dogs or for me, thank you.

And don't forget - PeTA kills animals!!! They are not the animal saviours that their mislead members believe!
