The oxygen that enters the leaves through the stomata is used for the cellular respiration and CO2 is released back in to the atmosphere.

Very often that CO2 is used for photosynthesis.

Plants do not breathe in the same way as we do it.

Plants don't breathe in the sense we do; they don't have lungs.

There is photosynthesis. There is a biochemical pathway that requires some carbons to make sugars that the plant uses. The plants intake carbon dioxide and remove it from the atmosphere. The energy input into the reaction comes from sunlight.

The cycle isn't exactly trivial, I believe if you search for "Kreb Cycle" or peruse wikipedia you will get more information. As I recall, it took the whole lecture in biology class to cover it, plus three blackboards.
