Well, I'm not a doctor, so I can't diagnose you, but in terms of the pain, you might try getting a massage from a certified massage therapist. If you are exercise a lot, you may have a lot of tension in your muscle that a massage therapist can help you work out. However, if it continues to be a problem, you should see a doctor. There's a small chance it could be something more serious like a blood clot, which really needs medical attention.

A lot of times frequent leg cramps (aka: charlie horses) are caused by a lack of potassium. Some foods rich in the element include wheat bran, milk, yogurt, raisins, sunflower seeds, apricots, cantaloups, peas, tofu, peanut butter, bananas, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and potatoes. Keep in mind that boiling veggies lowers the potassium content substantially. Also, if you're working out (cardio OR weights), you need to stretch before AND after your workout to warm your muscles up for the impending activity, and to release tension afterwards. Drinking lots of water also lowers the levels of toxins in the body, which also can cause sore muscles. Hope this info helps! :)

The first thing you can do is to stretch before you go swimming. Focus mostly on the part of your leg that cramps up most often. My swim coach always told me to eat bananas, so it would also help to eat a banana before you swim, but not rite before. You should also stay hydrated with water/gatorade or another drink.

Stretch your muscles on a daily basis, and make sure you're drinking enough water.

Eat enough protein, consume enough vitamins and minerals. Be healthy.

Make sure you're getting enough calcium and magnesium. These will help. Also, stretching can help.
