The term Fasli ( not pasali , actually ) is persin one .Even today used in the Revenue Departments all over India .This refers to the Persian year that commences from the middle of June .You cansee from the Current Tamil Almanac the different category of years like Kollam Aandu 1186-87, Fasli 1420-21, the Hijiri( Arabian - Islamic year ) 1431-32, Sali vahanam -1933. English 2011-12, Kali yugathi 511-12 etc . The settlement of land tax in theRevenue department is done on the basis if the Fasli year only that commences afteer the harvest . .The persians had a good system of Revenue Administation and it was followed during the Muslim Rule of India and continued even by the British and now by the Indian Government also .If you refer to the records of the Reenue Department ,you will come across a large number of Persian terms, Fasli year, ashmoise ( form field inspection of cultivation) Poramboke ( land reserved for public utility) Amanath ( suspense Account - used in the treasury) , Abkari, patta Chitta ,Jamabhandhi etc still in use . the Revenue Accounts were being settled during the Jamabhandhi hels every year at the end of theFasli year . It was not being settled once in ten years but every year .The villagers having agricultural lands in villages are aware of most of the tems and particularly , the terms like Patta , Fasli, porambke , Jamabhandhi etc . Now the current Fasli 1420-21 ( will be 1421 in the middle of June ) and it is Jamabhandhi time .Jamabhandhi is conducted by a Deputy or sub -collector, or theDist .Reve,Officer , in every Taluk and by the collector in one of the Taluks of every district. Here the ryots who could nt get a copy of their patta for months from theTalu office , could get it on the spot by the order of the Jamabhandhi officer. They can also expect to get some grievnances redressed . So Fasli refers to the persion year of accounts used in the Revenue Department and thedays befoe 1950 , it was the Revene Department that had control over all the departments like the Judiciary, the Treasury , tehRegistration Department ,and the District Collector also the Executive District Magistrate ( even today ) is the Head of the District having the right ot send reports to government about thfunctioning of all other departments . Patham Fasli should therefoe mean the tenth fasli year , meanig very old and dilapidated and useless . it might mean one given to very old ideas and habits .In tamil since we do not have the word fasli we say "Pasali" The Muslims did not rule oer India durig the tenth fasli year but thousands of years later only..So thetenthfasli was as good as an ancient time. The term patham pasali should hae originated form the Reenue Department people who could hae applied it for old and disused habits , or mehtods I have seen in a movie , Parhiban asking Vadivelu what the term "KUNDAKKA MANDAKKA " means . At this Vadivelu could not answer and they both behave as though no one in the world knows about it .Itis unfortuante that they did not know themeaning really and they repeated this comedy on several occasions .But "Kundakkaa , Mandakkaa " means this :-Kundakkaa = Kundu + Akka = kundakkaa = the elder sister who is stout , , Mandakka = Mandu + Akka = mandakkaa - the elder sister who is foolish . Kundakkaa mandakka entru did some thing .When somebody commits some blunder we used to say so .

Fveel glook....Its hard to understand how to pronounce the German umlauted U, bit it almost sounds like an over-exagerated U sound. The double 'oo' is the only way I can think of how to explain it!

"Viel Glück": pronunciation = feel gl(ui)ck.
The ü sound does not exist in English. It's like the sound of u in "surprise" in French. It's a sound between u and i. If you connect the u and i in "gluick" very quickly (almost like one) the sound comes close.
