My aunt is extremely religious. My family is Catholic and so are some of my friends, though I respect all religions. One of my friends is a non-practicing Catholic, meaning that she doesn't get dragged to church,( like I do,) and she doesn't go to CCD/Sunday School, (again, like I do.) She is thinking of turning towards the Wiccan religion because she is spiritually motivated, but she's not sure. My aunt, who is an extreme believer of Catechism because of her survival of cancer summer '06, thinks that it would be "a crime" if my friend changed religions once she turns 18. My friend says that my aunt's ways and opinion can't change her, and says that she should mind her own business because it's "my life, not her's." I like both of these people, but who should I side with? The Catholic nut, or my best friend?

Nothing for you to side with. You already said you hold respect for all religions. Respect that both have differing views. Your friend is searching and, in my opinion, you aunt should let her search. It is not a crime that your friend is doing this. If it were me in your shoes, I'd remain neutral and don't worry about it.

Not everyone's path is the same......

People have a right to pursue what makes them happy as long as it doesn't infringe on the rights of others.

You shouldn't have to choose sides between people you love, especially if the issue has nothing to do with you. Just let both parties know that you love and accept them for who they are and religion isn't something you really feel like discussing.

Most of the Wiccans I know are kind and upstanding people. They follow the law, care about animals/environment, and raise families. They are good people who mind their own business.
Your Aunt shouldn't worry about you having a Wiccan for a friend.

Having been Wiccan for over 40 years it is the right path for me. It is not going to be the right path for everyone. I am glad to see someone so open-minded, that is so rare in this forum. Continue to support your friend in her quest for her path. You can't (and should not even try) to change your aunts view, her path is right for her. You might want to encourage your friend to explore other paths as well (such as Buddhism). Research is a must before making a life path decision. Wicca is not only a religion, it is a life-style. If it is right for her, so be it! No need to take sides or change your own religious views. Just please, continue to support your friend no matter what path she chooses.

Well the Wiccan's don't preach killing the heathens.
But you have to admit magic??? sounds like Potter Gandalf and Merlin ,just a little make believe.
OK that not fair.
But the Cathoilc is still sick inside. NO MATTER the religion is good in principal.
Keep as many friends you can.

Don't "side" with anyone. Let your friend do what she wants and tell your aunt to get over herself. There's nothing wrong with being Wiccan, just like there's nothing wrong with being Catholic.

Why do you have to choose sides? Can't you see that your Aunt is entitled to her opinion, but that it's your friend's life?

In an way, they're BOTH right. Your aunt thinks she's right and so does your friend.

You don't have to take sides. Your aunt is comfortable with her faith and that is fine. Your friend wants to explore other paths, this is a natural curiousness and a right. Love 'em both.

It says a great deal about you as a person for asking the question. In your heart I'm sure you see for yourself, that in the end it is the person and what character they portray, that should tell you about the value system of their chosen religious inclination.
Heed the word and value the deed.
