No one really knows for sure. Most people think that it is the result of human activities, but there are some who argue that global warming is happening on its own.

Solar radiation from the sun is absorbed and converted to infared radiation. The infareds bounce back up but are stopped short by greenhouse gases (GHG's). These include: carbon dioxide (6.6 billion metric tons annually are produced by fossil fuels, 1.6 from burning forests down), water vapor, methane (CH4. 2/3 of emissions are from humans), nitrous oxide (from agriculture mainly), and tropospheric ozone (created when sunlight hits human-made pollutants). Water vapor is not man made. However, when humans have warmed the atmosphere via other GHG's, more evaporation occurs. More evaporation means more warming; which means more evapoartion. This cycle perpetuates itself; known as positive feedback. This why global warming worries so many scientists. Ecosystems and the way our planet works may be thrown out of whack.
Carbon dioxide however is responsible for half of the effect of global warming. That's why people are mainly concerned with that. It also has the longest residency time in the atmosphere (120 years).

Sulfer is not a GHG though. Sulfer is an aerosol in the air, and contributes to "global dimming". That is why global temperatures dropped in the mid 20th century; active volcanoes spewed out high concentrations of GHG's, leading to cooler atmospheric tmeperatures.

Global warming is a process by which the protective layer around a planet which has a suitable environment gets damaged. Because of the release of poisonous gases like carbon monoxide(CO), Sulphur di-oxide(SO2) etc., ozone layer(O3) loses it's capacity to prevent the entrance of harmful radiations of the Sun. This causes in the heating up of the planet which is known with the name Global Warming.

Global warming not accure or exist. It is a natural kind. You feel that is warm then you say that global warming.

The concept of Global Warming originates from the republican Doctrine of scare tactics.

There is no such thing as global warming. Every fact that you have seen is true. Glaciers melting and temperatures rising s a normal cycle.

My name is Rafael Lomena. I write from Alicante (Spain). I am independent investigator on the Accelerated Global Heating and want to share with all something that can turn out from interest to fight this phenomenon.
I believe that the main cause of the Accelerated Global Heating is in the great and increasing forest fires that are whipping to the planet in the last years.
My complete report is in: http://inicia.es/de/rlv/clim.htm...
If they do not understand the Spanish they can use the automatic translator that will find in the main page of site:

Thanks to all.

carbon mono oxide, carbon dioxide and CFC'S is the main cause of global warming because excess release of these gases in atmosphere develop the thick layer around the biosphere and by this ultraviolet rays of sun can not pass out side theatmosphere and return back to earth and make it more warm and in the result of that temperature rises.this is global warming.

What you are asking is very basic

Global WArming is the surface air heating up.

So the answer is jsut heat casues global warming.

CO2, and CFCs (for anyone wondering) are the nasty particles that eat away at the ozone, I don't think they are a major part of global warming.

Excess Carbon dioxide in the atmosphere "traps" the sunlight which causes the air to warm, basically.
Since humans showed up, carbon levels have increased drastically (because we burn fossil fuels, mainly), even compared to historical swings between ice ages. We expect this to result in unprecedented temperature increases, melting of antarcit ice, causing sea levels to rise, flooding most of the most populace cities on earth.
See the movie "an inconvenient truth"!
