The cat is very stressed out because the only people they know are gone. You should bring a spray bottle of water with you so if the cat attacks you again just spray. Also, you shouldn't take it to heart, it doesn't want to harm you. It just wants you away from its territory. The cat probably feels threaten.

You should probably clean it first with some hyrdrogen-peroxide. Then rub some anti-biotic cream on it and bandage it really well.

Clean the wound thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap and water. Cats claws and bites can cause infections pretty easily. Keep an eye on it and if it becomes worse, go to your doctor immediately. It might be good to go ahead and go now anyway. The cat's owners should have left a phone number to reach them by in case of emergency - so contact them and let them know what's happened. Maybe the cat is territorial and doesn't trust you. Maybe the owners could arrange for someone else the cat is more familiar with to care for it and pay for your doctor's visit... Until they return or other arrangments can be made, I'd wear thick clothes and even gloves so you're protected next time you go over to care for the cat.

Did you spend much time with the kitty before it was time to pet-sit? I had a cat who would attack all pet-sitters but one (the one who would come over and hang before I ever left). The cat is definitely upset that its owners are gone, and taking out its upset on you... but it does still need food and water.

I agree with the suggestions to wear protective clothing (a long sleeved shirt, maybe gloves) and carry a spray bottle of water. Hopefully your neighbors will give you a bonus for injury in the line of duty!

Consider soaking the cat bite in warm water with epsom salts; that helps take down the threat of infection. If you got to a doctor, be aware that by law they will have to know what cat bit you, and if the cat hasn't had its shots, it will have to be quarantined. At least, in my state that's the law. This doesn't mean you shouldn't go to the doctor, but just be aware, as it could cause issues between you and the neighbors, as we cat owners can certainly get emotional about our kitties.

Good luck!

Well for the bite itself, clean it with soap and water then apply hydrogen peroxide and some neosporin cream and watch it for any signs of infection (redness or swelling) For the cat, I would bring a water bottle to spray him with when you go to feed him. This should make him just steer clear of you when you are there. If he runs into a room, maybe just close the door and keep him confined until you are finished feeding, watering, and cleaning the litter box, then let him out only when you are leaving so he does not have opportunity to attack you. Let the owners know the situation when they get back, as they may have to board him the next time they go out of town.

Is the cat just biting you or dose the cat bite anyone who comes into the house? Let the owner know that its not acceptable for them to let their cat bite you. If they don't want to stop him then stop pet sitting for them.
