It is no longer necessary to tip the paper boy. From my point of view, being a paper boy isn't as prestigious as it once use to be and most of the time, you may not even see the paper boy.
If the paper boy is polite, he might not even take your money. You better keep your spare change.

Funny you mention this one. You should throw the paper person an extra tip. However in my case, I had to complain numerous times to the paper about my paper "lady" so I won't be tipping her this year :)

People need money year round, if you tip all of the time, why not tip now? If you never tip, start and just give him a little something during other times of the year.

If you can afford it, please do.
It's a good way to teach kids that there is appreciation out there for doing what is basically a thankless job.
*addendum to an above post *
"Yes - but we don't know how as she comes at like 3 Am and so we don't see her. I know her first name only so I can't even leave a check. You would think the newspaper would print how to do this."
-- Telephone the circulation department of your newspaper and ask who your paper carrier is and tell them why you want to know. I am sure they will be pleased to help you appreciate your carrier.

Why not? The paper delivery person is probably the least paid person that serves you and may be the most grateful to be considered of your generous thoughts.
Every time you give from the heart to those in need, God returns it to you 7 times over. But, do it from the heart...

I don't think you're supposed to, but it would be a nice thing to do. It might be cold out there and the kid still delivers your paper.
