Your cat is ill and needs an evaluation by a vet to find out what is wrong. There is just no way of getting around this - the longer you wait the more serious the problem can become.

Do not try to force water into your cat. It will only stress him and make things worse as you already know. If you are giving him canned food and he is eating he will be OK in that department. When I give my cats a serving of canned food I usually add a teaspoon of filtered water to each serving. So do that for your cat and do get him to a vet very soon.

SHEILA, TAKE HIM TO THE VET NOW!!!!!
Even if you don't have the money now, take your cat to the vet and think about paying later. Most places will make arrangements with you so you can pay it off.
Please don't take the time to read the rest of this or your cat could die.
People, people, people, wise up, if your animal is ill and you do not get it treatment, it is considered abuse! I cannot stress this enough! That's why I'm using a lot of exlamation marks!
I don't understand why people continually write with these kinds of questions, when an animal is this sick, you take it to the vet. If you don't have the money, you take out a loan or put it on a credit card or you don't have a pet.
Think about it, would you let a baby go without medical attention?
It pains me that people keep getting animals without having the proper knowledge or financial means to take care of it.
I would write more but it's important for you to take your cat to the vet now, Sheila. Go, now!

I would take him to a place where he can smell the scent of any animal. I would sit on the floor with him and a bowl of water. I would spend as much time it would take to get him to drink the water. I wouldn't force him. If after a long period of time he still refuses, I'd start to get used to the idea he may be dying.
