....was really a part of god’s covert way to let’s people character dictate themselves before god.
I am an atheist, but for the sake of open-mindedness I want to present an argument that I think would make for a great progressive Christian point of view
Take these two examples of things that would otherwise make christianity’s moral reasoning seem suspect.
First let’s look at the issue of homosexuality..
suppose god dictated the sinfulness of homosexuality in his word in order to test how sympathetic a Christian’s heart could be. If you accepted god’s word that homosexuality was sin but still felt too much sympathy toward homosexuals to TOTALLY RAIL against the homosexual lifestyle, then your character has expressed itself as loving “unto the least of you” (quoting Jesus)

But more importantly, at the other spectrum, if you seemed to care more about the speck in neighbors eye than the speck in your own and had nothing better to do but to relentlessly attack the homosexual for being in sin, then you were failing the test (thusly sending Jerry Falwel’s butt to hell.)
And those who are more of less neutral pass by default
This comes with a slight conundrum though. Then perhaps homosexuality was not a real sin to god and he let homosexuals suffer, but for grander purpose. Humanity needed a particular test of character and perhaps while homosexuals may have suffered for no reason of their own, it wasn’t for naught. By their suffering, god made an enormous, real world, sneaky, covert, yet just, character test. Perhaps the homosexuals are to be rewarded greatly in heaven. Or maybe heaven is so great, you don’t care how crappy or imperfect your life on earth was anyways.

Another example is the problem of atheism. Suppose god made it so that no man could truly experience (through reason or through spirit) him enough to know 100% that god actually existed. That way if you weren’t a Christian, your character was dictated by how you lived your life without the fear of god’s wrath for immorality. If you show god that you can be a loving, good human being without fearing punishment for living selfishly and immorally then you are good to god.
And as for a Christian, you will not be saved just because you believe that jesus was a real person and that he died for humanity as explained in the bible. You are not saved just because you strictly follow the moral laws of the bible. You are only saved by understanding and following Christ commandment to love one another

The moral test goes like this, if you are a polemical Christian who assails non-believers and tells them that they are with satan and they are going to hell just because they had figured Christianity was a myth then you have disgraced yourself before god.
If you a Christian who more or less understands that atheists were not “bad” people and that god wasn ‘t going to make them burn in hell forever just because they believed that the bible was a myth like all other religions are, then you have showed your character to be loving and understanding.
I bet a lot of Christians could subscribe to this view of Christianity
It would make the faith an almost perfect moral guide.
What do you think?

There is a huge error you are making. Do not think of sin as an action, think of it as a state. Therefore, anyone who has done the smallest thing wrong, has turned on the sin switch. So, if I would live a life, knowing that I am no better than any other, that I am in a state of sin, that life would have to show the evidence of humility, forgiveness and unconditional love. We can point out everyone's fallibility, but that just shows we are looking at our neighbor, in a way to make ourselves feel better. So, where does all of this come together. Well, it is easy. The alternative lifestyle would not prevent a person from salvation. But, one thing does. It is atheism. Refusing to believe, mocking and telling Him to go away.... is the one unforgivable sin.
Sorry, I skimmed thru the last paragraph, so I may have missed something.....

First of all God can do what he wants to atheists. It's not my job, nor anyone's job, to tell them; good, bad or immoral that they will be going to hell.
If they do they are judging people and that is only God's job not their's.. so end of that discussion.
But to your other points God the Father gave the Jewish people a list of Commandments and things they were to do during their Exodus, they were NOT suggestions
Jesus came into this world and He showed love to all no matter if they sinned or not. However, he always told these people to go and sin no more. After that it was up to them to make a personal decision to go back to that way of life or follow Jesus, that is called free will which we all have been given by God.
One does not reason God into existence or change His rules to fit their particular lifestyle because when you start doing that you are trying to be God yourself.
Merry Christmas!

A thief never thinks he's evil, he justifies it that he has a need for such thing and maybe even blame society for it for making stealing illegal.
Two people fight and when you talk to them individually they swear it's the other person's fault.
Your mom and dad think you did something bad you on the other hand thing they are too strict and don't understand cause they really are not good parents.
Teacher thinks you got an attitude problem, you think the teacher is dumb.
Your complaint doesn't begin and end with religion. It's about discipline.

God is not unjust. He knows our hearts. He forgives our sins, all of them when we ask. We do not go to heaven because we are good, We go to heaven because God is good. We all are sinners. Homosexuality is a sin, so is lying, stealing, cheating, adultery, not stopping what is wrong. Sin is just when our heart separates from God;s will for us. I would suggest to all homosexuals who love the Lord to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and go from there. If they can not change their sexual orientation, give at least your heart to god. And when you do, you are able to give up things that you did not know was possible. But even if you keep sinning, God loves you. Just give your heart to Him, He is the rightful judge. I do not have any idea what is going to happen to anyone of us because we are showing outside a little bit of us. I rely on God's wisdom. I love everybody, and I let God to sort us out.

in my opinion you can apply the example of the adulterous woman to this. She is forgiven....but he tells her to live in sin no more. I think boundaries should be established in the church for moral conduct but at the same time things need to be balanced. When things get out of proportion, miscommunication can occur and other bad things thereafter.
Humans can live without sex...plenty in the world have died without having sex before. This fact distinguishes itself from the characteristics that make up a need. Needs, you "need" in order to live such as food water and shelter etc. Desires make life more pleasurable such as financial stability, emotional support, and sex. Its impossible to live a perfect life but I believe God judges the heart and intent much better than a christian. And a good study of biblical theology tells us that God is much more of a merciful God than an angry, impatient, and high demanding God. Usually when he is seen as having characteristics such as these, it is because of repeated stubborness such as with the israelites. He had mercy on david when he sinned with bathsheeba. Whats the difference? God knows the heart of man and he tests his intentions...both the wicked and the righteous he tests. David's heart was broken by what he had done...and purposed to learn from his mistakes and continue on track. As a result, God held back on his judgements against him. David was known as a man who sought after God's own heart.

Here is an idea...Why don't we just do what God has told us to do - He is smarter than any of us. The statutes and commandments were not given as a cosmic killjoy, they were given to protect us and in turn give us joy in abundance.
Read your Bible. Absorb what it SAYS - not what you want it to say. Apply it to your life - Put it to work. Ask Him to give you the strength to Do what it says. Since God can see the end from the beginning, He knows what He is talking about.

Please Google Bill Wiese - 23 Minutes in Hell. You can watch his video online for free for buy his book at Wal-Mart for about $11.00.
This is an incredible testimony of Bill Wiese and his "23 Minutes in Hell".
Bill was supernaturally placed in Hell BUT not as a casual observer, BUT as someone who was not saved.
He recounts all the horrid details with such precision.
His soul was returned to his earthly body with a warning and message for all.
Please view the entire testimony prior to forming your opinion.
Since I read this book on 12-22-06 in one night (I couldn’t put it down) I decided to completely change my life b/c I have been visited and tormented by demons throughout my life. Reading his book and listening to his video has only strengthened what my heart has always known: That Demon, Evil Spirits and HELL are real.
In Oct 2005, I left my husband b/c the demons would not let me sleep unless I slept with a cross. My ex-husband was a believer as I am, but he felt he was strong enough as a Christian to pray the demons away. I asked him if we could sell the house and move to another house, but b/c he was laid off, he said that it was not a smart decision. So I put a cross and angels in the living room and bedroom and I swear that only make the demons angrier and determined to haunt me. I begged and pleaded w/him to help me find someone who is a stronger and closer to GOD than us. Someone like an exorcist, I was desperate. Well he took this as an insult to his manhood and faith and refused to do so. So I continued to sleep every night with a cross on a long necklace clutching it and praying to GOD EVERY night that the demons would leave me alone. By the way the demons only bothered me at nighttime when I would try to sleep. When we were dating, there were 2 different situations that the demons made themselves known and he was aware of this. I fell into depression, started going to counseling and started taking antidepressants. I finally had to make a hard decision to leave my husband and move out b/c I was being tormented by the demons in that house.
Sadly his first wife had similar torments and she went crazy and he got custody of their kids. I told him that I will not stay and be driven crazy by them like his first wife. The irony of this is that his 2 daughters told of their experiences with the demons in the house.
I could go on and on but YOU have to make the decision if you want to hear more. There are many, many people who have had real experiences and they can be found on the internet.

No! One of the 10 commandments says not to adore false idols, and it says to leave the bible as it is. if you cross out things in the bible and put it like you want it, you are disobeying the Lord.

First of all, God does not test people with evil or unjust things. Please note:
(James 1:13-15) "When under trial, let no one say: “I am being tried by God.” For with evil things God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone. "
The biographer of Job, Moses, recorded what a friend of Jobs said to him regarding any injustice by God.
(Job 34:10-12) 10Â Therefore, YOU men of heart, listen to me. Far be it from the [true] God to act wickedly, And the Almighty to act unjustly! 11Â For [according to] the way earthling man acts he will reward him, And according to the path of man he will cause it to come upon him. 12Â Yes, for a fact, God himself does not act wickedly, And the Almighty himself does not pervert judgment."
Jehovah God's standard do not change--when he in fact destroyed Sodom & Gomorrah in Abraham's time Jesus frankly supported God's powerful action by saying:
(Luke 17:20)  But on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God was coming, he answered them and said: “The kingdom of God is not coming with striking observableness. . .(Luke 17:28-30) 28 Likewise, just as it occurred in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building. 29 But on the day that Lot came out of Sod´om it rained fire and sulphur from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 The same way it will be on that day when the Son of man is to be revealed."
It is of interest to note that Jesus, indeed never condemned the prostitutes and other so-called sinners, but the self-righteous religious leaders--same would be for our modern day "righteous ones"(these ones would have their own secret sins, being heavy or light)
The Bible never encourages a lothing for the person practicing the sin , but indeed the sin itself--that again is why all types of people felt comfortable around him and indeed some changed their ways completely--Mary Magdalene, Apostle Mathew, Nicodemas and others, with the exception of the vast majority of the religious leaders who were behind his murder.
The God of the Universe is not a Jekeylle & Hyde personality. Seeming injustices, can indeed be cleared up with a careful cross-referencing of Biblical accounts. Please remember that the Bible secretaries , all 40 of them had reputations of impeccable honesty. They honestly revealed their serious mistakes in all their writings.
(Psalm 50:16-22) 16Â But to the wicked one God will have to say: “What right do you have to enumerate my regulations, And that you may bear my covenant in your mouth? 17Â Why, you—you have hated discipline, And you keep throwing my words behind you. 18Â Whenever you saw a thief, you were even pleased with him; And your sharing was with adulterers. 19Â Your mouth you have let loose to what is bad, And your tongue you keep attached to deception. 20Â You sit [and] speak against your own brother, Against the son of your mother you give away a fault. 21Â These things you have done, and I kept silent. You imagined that I would positively become like you. I am going to reprove you, and I will set things in order before your eyes. 22Â Understand this, please, YOU forgetters of God, That I may not tear [YOU] to pieces without there being any deliverer."
With the complete view of God's actions for eons of time( for it is said that Jehovah God created Jesus before anything else in the universe. ) What view did Jesus alway present of God to all he met? When he was asked a question please note his answer:
(Luke 18:18-19) 18Â And a certain ruler questioned him, saying: “Good Teacher, by doing what shall I inherit everlasting life?” 19Â Jesus said to him: “Why do you call me good? Nobody is good, except one, God. "
His clear meaning, in that God was the epitome of goodness, even beyond his.
The moral standards of the Almighty do not change, there are at times variables(having to do with severity of sins etc.)similar to variables, in gravity, electro-magnitism, biological sciences etc.
