I'm thinking of getting a pom, papillon, chihuahua, yorkie, maltese, or shitz tzu. Which sheds a lot?

If you are deciding on a dog for yourself take into account what type of temperment is best suited for you and also if you have small children.

I think before you decide on one research it first and then make your choice. Borrow books from the library on small breeds or buy a book.

I like yorkies and toy poodles. Both are cute little lap dogs.

Yorkies (Yorkshire Terriers) are my favorite.
I have a Yorkie and she is precious. They don't shed at all and are hypoallergenic. Just beware, small dogs have very distinct personalities so make sure you get one that you love. The only drawback about Yorkies is that they need to get their hair cut about every 3 months(if you want to keep their hair short). I have heard that Chihuahuas are very demanding, but I have no experience with them. Maltese are also very adorable. I love my Yorkie, she is so cute, playful, and loyal. Good luck!

I am not a small dog person, I have two very large dogs but I already decided if I did get a small dog it would be a Pom or a Corgi. Poms are the cutest, the look like little lions and I adore my friends. The Corgi I had was a big dog in a little body so she was the collest thing.

Any small dogs are cute because they are playfull. Shitz tzu's shed alot because their fur is long and they require alot of brushing and hair care! My advice: get a dog with little hair like a chihuahua!!

Think about a Chinese Crested! They come in two varieties: hairless (of varying degrees) and Powderpuff (which have a full, long sliky coat.)

I have two of these wonderful dogs, both powderpuffs, (one female and one male) and love them dearly! I get so much pleasure from them, as they are cheerful, friendly, loyal, playful and not as "talkative" as some of the smaller breeds, but they are ever-vigilant to intruders. "Luci Liu" and "BoRegard" truly fill my life with joy and I would recommend the breed to anyone looking for a small dog.

The downside of the hairless variety can be the need for sunblock and continual care of their naked skin. (These are the only breed of dogs that actually have sweat glands in their skin.) The powderpuff variety requires daily brushing to keep the coat from becoming knotted, but the upside is they don't shed like some other breeds.

Hope this helps. Good luck to you in your search for your pup!

I love Chihuahuas! I own five of them now. They are all short haired Chihuahuas, and don't shed much at all. They are very loving, loyal , smart, protective of their owners, very low maintenance, funny, very energetic, fun to dress up, great little watch dogs, and you can take them with you, just about anywhere you go.

Shih tzu i love everything about them. They dont really shed but do need to be groomed every few months or so. they are good with other dogs, kids, and other animals if raised around them. So they are an all around great breed.

If you don't want a dog that sheds, I recommend a miniature schnauzer, as they don't shed at all! You do, however, have to give them monthly hair cuts, which you can either do yourself (I do) or pay a groomer.

All of them are different in personalities, as are most dogs, but they are all very loyal to whom they consider their dominate and subdominate owners.

Highly recommend them!! :)
