If you buy peanut butter, buy the kind that does not have hydrogenated oils in it as the oils contain high fatty acids and are bad for you. The peanut butter will look like the oil has separated from the peanut butter. You have to stir it up to use it. I always pour a little of the peanut oil out so it will not be too runny. A 16 ounce jar usually costs $2.69 in Texas.

Peanut butter is good for the body because it's high protein and plant based, and the protein is relatively cheap compared to animal sources too.
Also, if it's unchanged, the oil is "good for you.". Unfortunately, that good oil is usually removed and a worse oil is added back, to create the consistency we're used to.
So if you want to have the healthiest peanut butter, either grind your own (at Whole Foods, etc., or at home, from real peanuts), or buy the "natural style" the responder mentioned above... the kind where the oil has separated and is floating on top, and must be stirred back into the solids (not Jiff, Skippy, etc, unless they now have a "natural" version).
All types do have quite a few calories though, so eating too much can cause health problems just from being overweight.
For the cheapest peanut butter, buy at warehouses like Costco,
or smaller ones like Smart & Final if you have one near, or at grocery stores or Walmart, etc., usually in larger containers. Not sure if any of those comes in the "natural" verison though.
(even cheaper sources of protein than peanut butter though are "complementary" proteins like beans eaten with rice, or beans/peas/lentils combined with other grains... also eggs)

Your best buys for the best peanut butter are Skippy or Jiffy. The price depends on where you live and what size jar you buy of it. They come in many sizes.
