Probably not. In Luke 2:1-5 we learn that Joseph and Mary were traveling to Bethlehem to register for a census (Rome wanted to know how many people there were so they would know how much was owed to them in taxes). It would be foolish to have so many people travel in the wintertime. The widely held belief is that Jesus was born in the spring, summer or early fall at the latest because the shepherds were more likely to be out in the fields that time of year.
So why is Christmas on December 25th? In 336 AD the church decided to celebrate Jesus' birth on December 25th to offset the pagan celebration of the winter solstice.

Christ was CONCEIVED on Dec. 25th. HIS BIRTH is around Sept. 28th or 29th. When Mary came to Elizabeth and John being six months old in the womb, he leaped for joy being filled with the Holy Spirit before he was even born. Elizabeth's husband Zackariah's was full filling his duty as High priest that term during the course of Abuiau. (spelling) Count the days afterward and you come to Sept. toward the last of the month when Christ was born. Another thing that is simple. When the Angel came to the shepherds at night and proclaimed the birth of Christ while feeding their sheep, there IS NOTHING in the fields in Winter for them to graze on. The weather in Judea is the same weather we have here in this part of the world. Its all in the Bible, mostly in the old testament.

Nope. Jesus was probably born in the Spring, and most likly concived in September (even though the Bible says the sixth month, you have to figure out their calender and match it to ours). December 25th is just a remembrance day.

No, but it's celebrated on that day traditionally. According to the Bible, Jesus was actually born in the month of September, but the day was never given. Best of luck to you, Merry Christmas.

I have heard that Jesus was really born sometime in the summer but I am unclear as to precisely the reason for this all.

No-in Judaea in biblical times shepherds didn't watch their flocks in the open in the middle of winter-they would have got hypothermia, so if that part of the fable is true it must have been between April and September.

No! Jesus was born on Passover! When a boy, on his 12th birthday, took the test of knowledge, it was always done on his birthday, not before, or after.
