not really, the good thing about Maltese are they are pretty smart dogs, If your persistent and with training them they will catch on pretty quickly. The only thing that might be a bit of a challenge is keeping up with their grooming because their hair can get very log and if not cared for properly it will start to mat up. Many Maltese owners who have them as pets and aren't showing them or anything keep their dogs in a "puppy cut" where the hair is cut short and close to their body. It's alot easier to manage this way.

Also you have to watch what you feed them, anything with alot of dyes and beets in the food can cause bad tear staining on the face and also stain around their mouths. Over all though I would say that they aren't really any harder to raise than any other breed, in fact they are easier to raise than some.

just as hard as any other small puppy. We had one come into the clinic where i work today. Her name is Marshmallow, and she was 14 weeks old, already potty trained and everything. Super cute and super friendly. Just do research on puppies in general, and also on the breed. And maybe talk to people that you knw who've owned a maltese. But from what i see from the clinic, they are great dogs, very sweet.

Not at all. Maltese are a very smart breed and catch on to training easily. They are active and loving companions. Their grooming can be tiresome due to the need for constant brushing. You could, however, keep the hair short more like a terrier and avoid the hassle. I love the breed and own 2.

I just got one last weekend. She is pretty active, loves to play, and is very lovable. Maltese are very smart so they catch on to training very quickly. You will have to start getting it used to being handled all over and being groomed since it will be needing to get groomed very often. You also have to make some special considerations so that you can avoid tearstaining-- foods with no dye, washing beard, making sure your water doesn't have a high mineral content, keeping hair up in a top knot, keeping hair around eyes dry, etc. Good luck. If you think one will fit in your lifestyle, have fun. They are a blessing.

the undeniable fact that a maltese is small makes them extra vulnerable to injuries. be careful in case you enable her play around different canines as they are able to be tough in this variety of small canines. ensure to socialise her properly so she isn't terrified of different canines. discovering this breed before you desperate to get you are able to even have been a reliable thought too, yet reliable success!
