Just think there are numerous Unknown things in your life. You would like to know and govern your unknown future by some stick. You take hold of first Unknown and name it God. God is the first unknown the humans have come to known. Still today it is Unknown and will remain so till you and I die. Believing God is like relying for your unknown future on some mighty power who you assume is stronger then you are. If ever human knew what is in store for them in future their would be no existence of God.
God's existence came in to place when people who wanted others to do something what they thought was right but could make them do by force or rather they loved them but did not want to use force to make them believe what they believed.
They took pretext of God and made them do by saying God will not be happy if you do this or God will be happy if you do that.bla bla.. At every point both are unaware of what God is but some intelligent mind imagined it and made use of their imagination to control the folks. There is nothing wrong in Believing in God because by doing so you relieve your stress and leave the things that you are not knowing in to the hands of some one who is itself an
Unknown.

We cannot say much about what God is in Himself as He is pure Spirit and we cannot understand what this is,of course we know that God is all powerful and is the Creator of everything in the universe, He is love itself and compassion, but God`s pure essence is a mystery that we will find out when we are in Heaven.

Here are a couple of quotes about God as Love from C. S. Lewis that I really like:

"He [God] has paid us the intolerable compliment of loving us, in the deepest, most tragic, most inexorable sense. .... Love, in its own nature, demands the perfecting of the beloved; ... mere "kindness" which tolerates anything except suffering in its object is, in that respect, at the opposite pole from Love."

"You ask for a loving God; you have one ... not a senile benevolence that drowsily wishes you to be happy in your own way, not the cold philanthropy of a conscientious magistrate, not the care of a host who feels responsible for the comfort of his guests, but the CONSUMING FIRE HIMSELF, the Love that made the worlds, persistent as the artist's love for a child, jealous, inexorable, exacting as love between the sexes..."

"The only place outside Heaven where you can be perfectly safe from all the dangers and perturbations of love is Hell."

With love in Christ.
