I wanted to make mashed potatoes but was curious as to weather or not you can make gravy out of ham? If so, how?

Hudson's Nutmeg Scalloped Potatoes
Scalloped potatoes with a German flair.

Prep: 45 minutes
Cook: 45 minutes
Servings: Serves 12
6 large Idaho potatoes
1 lb. bacon, chopped
2 large yellow onions, peeled and chopped
1 qt. cream
1-1/2 tsp. black pepper
1-1/2 white pepper
1 Tbsp. nutmeg
4 Tbsp. cornstarch mixed with 3-4 Tbsp. water
--- salt, to taste
1 Tbsp. butter
1/2 cup Parmesan, grated

Put potatoes in a large saucepan with cold water to cover. Bring to a boil.
Boil potatoes in jackets until done, but still firm.
Cool and remove skin. Cut lengthwise and then across in 1/2-inch slices.
Place in buttered baking dish or casserole, overlapping rows of slices like shingles on a roof.
Brown bacon, drain, and reserve drippings.
Saute onions in 2 Tbsp. bacon drippings in the same pan. Combine with bacon.
Combine cream, peppers, and nutmeg in a clean saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil and add cornstarch mixture to make sauce. It's better for it to be too thick than too thin. Stir and adjust seasoning.
Sprinkle bacon-onion mixture over potatoes. Top with sauce, and sprinkle with Parmesan.
Bake at 400 degrees, 30-45 minutes until bubbling and browned.

You can, but not if you use a lot of different things on-top of your ham such as honey and or pineapple slices. You can buy just turkey or chicken broth or even beef broth and make a gravy to serve with it. Scalloped or augratin potatoes are also good to serve with a ham dinner.

I am making mashed potatoes and the gravy I will make will be from some of the ham drippings AND chicken boullion. Make it just the same as any other gravy.

How about macaroni salad? Here's my recipe. You need one box of macaroni (1 lb.), one can of Spam, one small can (7 ounces) of sweet red peppers, one half onion, one small carrot, one small bottle of mayonnaise, 3 hard boiled eggs, 2 or 3 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese, and 2 or 3 tablespoons of olive oil. Boil the macaroni for 15 minutes, and while doing this, cut the spam, the red peppers, the eggs and the half onion into very small pieces (1/4 in. or smaller). Using a potato peeler, cut the potato into thin, long slices, which you will then also cut into small pieces. Empty the macaroni into a large bowl, and mix in all other ingredients, using a large spoon. Put it in the fridge for a while, and BON APPETIT.

Cream Corn made with real cream is a great one. Hundreds of recipes online, take your pick. Cream Spinach, same same. Make some homemade garlic mashed, Italian style. Saute lots of chopped garlic in some olive oil, but don't burn it. Melt in an equal amount of butter, and mix with potatoes. Finish with a little Mozzerella/provalone and parmaesan or romano and fresh chopped parsley. Thee best !!

My family's favorite is sweet potato casserole. Also, they love mashed potatoes topped with cheddar cheese, and the ever-popular green bean casserole with French's Onions and mushroom soup.
