I just got engaged and I am so thrilled the way my honey and I did it. We went to several stores together, including Wally World and pawn shops. I looked through them all and told him the styles that I liked. Out of those, he then chose one that he liked . We communicated!! BIG THING HERE!! I DID NOT want him to buy me a huge expensive ring. I would have been so mad if he did. (and he has the money too, that's not the issue.) I would rather use the extra money for our house, honeymoon, and our future children (plus shoes for me!) Engagements shouldn't be about how big the ring is, or how much you spent, but a love between you both and future shared together. It's all about the love! Your sweetie won't care about the price if she truly loves you. She just wants to spend the rest of her life with you.

A 3.5ct ring for 10,000, the ring must be in some really bad quality. What you are looking for in a ring is something that is near colorless or colorless and in the vs scale.
You will see also the larger the diamond the more visible the flaws will show. A good 2ct diamond should cost about 15 thousand and up. for a 3ct diamond in good quality will cost you more.
You really need to look at the diamond close to get a idea the flaws, that's why I would discourage you from buying over the Internet

Look to see what color jewelry she wears (white gold, yellow gold, platinum). Then buy a single solitaire diamond engagement ring in that color (it's classic). Most girls like round or princess cut. Carat size is up to you. I'd also recommend getting the wedding band at the same time to make sure the two look and fit good together. Good luck proposing! Whatever you pick I'm sure she will love and treasure.

The ring you purchase must be something you CAN afford to lose (what if the engagement is called off or you both fall out of love, then you won't be out of too much money.) On the other hand, purchase a ring you feel she is worthy of receiving. Sometimes the price means nothing when your heart is giving. Be careful not to go over-board. If you spend a lot on a ring, then you will have nothing left over for the actual wedding and honeymoon expenditures. Good Luck!

It's really all about personal preference! I mean, you have to just get something you'll know she will like. My opinions may differ from yours, but personally- I think for the band you should stick to one kind of metal (choose either white gold, yellow gold, or platinum). Some people like a mixture of white and yellow, but me and all of my girlfriends like just white gold or platinum. Also, be REALLY sure that she likes heart shaped diamonds. That is a kind of cut that a girl either loves or hates. You want to make sure she LOVES it! Princess cut (square shaped) and round are very popular, and therefore usually a safe pick. My favorite cut is emerald which is more of a classic look. Princess cut looks more modern. Hope this helps. Good luck!

That's sweet! The "best" ring? The one you give her with love and sincerity - really. That being said, find out her favorite stone (my fiance proposed with a Star Sapphire) and metal, white gold, silver, yellow gold, rose gold, platinum... Then purchase what you can afford. Do NOT spend more than you can afford. It won't impress her more and it will stress you out - not a good beginning... (and by the way, if she's only impressed with the "biggest and best" and not with the love and committment you're offering, you might want to rethink your decision.) Hope it goes well!

One that's sparkly!! It really doesn't matter if you buy a ring that is only one hundred dollars from a pawn shop, as long as it comes from the heart then she's gonna love it. Why not between now and then go looking at the mall and tell her that one of your coworkers asked you to look at a ring they had in mind for their lady and see what she ooohhh's over.

Don't go regular Diamond ring. You should get a really neat unique ring she will treasure forever. Maybe you should let the base be something different like coral. But I've always liked silver too. Pick a really unique stone. Think of your girl's personality. If she's goth or something get onyx. If she's happy and nice...get her a beautiful opal ring or moonstone is beautiful! I love jade and turqoise too. If you just get a diamond ring she might not think that you spent alot of time choosing. Choose something that will reflect her perfectly.

Look into Promise Rings. They usually won't bankrupt you like engagement rings will, and still look nice.
Here is information on engagements:

You can also design your own engagement ring, but that may not be suitable for the time period between now and New Years.

Just go to a local jewelry store, and an associate there will be able to help you pick out the right engagement ring, that is in your budget.
