Hi. Mormons are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The term "Mormon" is a nickname which refers to a prophet who we believed compiled the records which were kept by other prophets in the Old World and the New World and which are now called the Book of Mormon. We use both the Bible and the Book of Mormon together as 2 books which testify of Jesus Christ as the Son of God, the Savior and Redeemer of Mankind, with the Atonement of Jesus Christ being central to our beliefs and teachings. You can learn more at the website www.lds.org - and don't be afraid to hang out with your neighbor. We have something called the Word of Wisdom and so we don't drink alcohol or smoke. As far as being worried about what to say or not to say, we do believe in having clean language and we do our best not to take the Lord's name in vain. You may hear a lot of strange stories from people here on the Internet, but it's always best to ask an active, practicing Mormon about any questions you have. Have a happy day, and I send you a virtual gummy bear.

The real name of the "Mormon" church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Yes we are Christians. We just believe that through our prophets we have been benefactors of divine guidance that other branches of Christianity have not received. If your neighbor is any kind of Mormon at all he'd be more than glad to give you the scoop on the churches teachings if you ask, or you can check us out at LDS.org
Just don't over do the jokes about multiple wives.
He probably won't want to drink.
You ought to find him to be a pretty nice guy with some decent morals.
Mormon, to Mormons, is an ancient prophet who in the 1820's as an angelic being directed the churches founder, Joseph Smith, to a hill in New York State where he found ancient writings hidden in a sort of dug out shelter that through Divine help help he translated into what we know as The Book of Mormon. We consider it a sort of supplemental testament to the divinity of Jesus Christ.

I'm going to answer this in the sections you asked:
1. A mormon is a follower of the church of Jesus Christ if Latter day saints. They are referred to as mormons because their chief text is the book of mormon.
2. Mormons are christians too, but you differentiate yourself from them by saying that you are a christian and they are not. Are you a non-denominational or one of those other weird sects that thinks they're better than others?
3. As far as the "i stopped going to church so i don't know much anymore." I'd be willing to bet that you didn't know much when you did go to church. I recommend personal study, get far away from the pointless preachings that have penetrated the church today, personal discovery is the way. Christ himself even said, "the kingdom of god is in you, not is buildings of wood and stone. Split a piece of wood and I am there, lift a stone and you shall find me."
4. Yes you can hang out with him, despite what your priest/preacher/overlord might have said, he's probably a very good guy. I can pretty much guarantee that your soul will be safe if you hang out with him.
5. Just don't say anything you wouldn't say to your mom, be polite.

Please, please, please, whatever Mormons say, please do not be caught in the deception. Mormons believe with every bit of their soul that they are Christian, but they are NOT Christians.
They believe Jesus was the spirit brother of you, me, and Satan. They believe God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are 3 very separate beings-- which means they are either polytheistic or don't believe Jesus is God--both of which aren't Biblical teachings. They believe that Jesus only opened the door for us to be saved, but that we are only saved after we do everything in our own power (good works).
Putting these theological differences aside, I'm sure your neighbor would love to have a new, friendly face. If you get on the topic of religion you have two choices:
1. listen and don't point out any theological differences between Mormonism and true Christianity
2. use it as an opportunity to share the TRUE good news.

It may help you to 'hang out' with him. I have heard the Mormons also have a book of Mormons' and I believe it is called a book of Abraham'. (The book of Abraham is basically then to now, I think).
As for 'anything I should not say', that piece may depend on him presently.

"Mormon" is a nickname given to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are Chrisitan - contrary to what others say - we believe in Christ, his Atonement, sacrifice, resurrection, divinity...we love Him.
Of course you can hang out! If he is a faithful member you might find there are things he doesn't do though, like smoke, drink...stuff that isn't uplifting and doesn't invite the spirit.
You could visit mormon.org to get an idea of what we believe...ask him some questions too, I am sure he wouldn't mind answering.
Good luck!

Mormons believe in a different nature of Jesus Christ.
Not Christian in theology or belief. They proclaim some christian thoughts but upon investigation the Book of Mormon discounts the assertion quite directly.
Yes. Be friends with everyone.

They will try to bring you into their church. You need to put on the full armor of God. Number one you must be strong in your faith. You need to know what it means to be Born Again. I am not telling you not to befriend him. But to be wise and strong. Here is a quick over view of what it means to be Mormon...
The Truth About Mormonism
Most LDS (This stands for Latter Day Saint, That's what they like to call themselves) won't tell you what the Church believes because it is so bizarre. These strange beliefs are the reason mainline Christians Churches say that Mormonism is a non-christian cult. In the next paragraph I will tell you what they believe and add what the Bible teaches on the subject where appropriate.
Mormons teach that our god is a glorified man. A being of flesh and bone. The Bible makes it very clear that God is spirit. The Mormon god stated out in the great expanse of uncreated space. There in the darkness of a pre-spiritual existence, god the father, Jesus, you, and I will there all equal and co-eternal. Then a god had sexual intercourse with one of his wives and our god was given a spiritual body. He happened to be the first born of this god so he became the savior of this god's world just like Jesus is for our world. He lived, and taught Mormonism to those who would listen to mine. He died just like Jesus did here and if others on that world would repent and be baptized by the Mormon priest there and live to the end of their lives in righteousness they were allow to return to their god. If they didn't measure up they were assigned to other kingdoms that that god has created for them. Kingdoms overseen by their savior (who became our god) and another valiant spirit that was given the office of holy ghost. (What do you think, is this getting complex?) After the end of the world that our god did his mortal ministry on, he was given many worthy females at he could have sex with and thereby create spirit children (us) to send to a world that he created. Oh, by the way these worlds weren't really created they were organized out of the matter available in space (matter is co-eternal with god and can't be created or destroyed). Jesus was the first born of our god and Lucifer the second born (who became the devil). Can you believe this Mormons don't just say that Jesus is our spiritual brother but also he and we are brothers of Satan. Lucifer wanted to force us all to be good and bring us all back to god Jesus wanted to give us freedom to make our own decision. Jesus won this battle and became god the son. Well Mormons believe this process is repeated again and again. It is their goal to live a perfect life through their first principles of their gospel they are:
1. Faith in the Mormon Jesus
2. Baptism by immersion (Done only by their priests)
3. Laying on of hands for the gift of the Mormon Holy Ghost ( Done only by their elders)
4. Repentance ( You have to repent of every sin you commit, You better have a good memory)
5. Enduring to the end of your life in righteousness. Go to step 4 each time to you sin.
Along with this there is marriage in the Mormon temple (You can't become a god without being married). Everyone is also asked to pay a full tithe (Ok they got one thing right) and do volunteer service for the church (They have no paid ministry. That isn't bad either but someone should tell them that pastoring a local christian church is a full time and a half job and it doesn't pay well at all. Men and women that do it are called of God No one would go into that kind of work on their own.. Jim

i've got spent approximately 40 years in bishoprics, extreme councils, and clerk positions, and that i've got seen quite a few people go away the Church. i've got sat on quite a few disciplinary councils. None of them left the Church by using fact of "data" against the Church. There are some who in basic terms gradually flow away into inactiveness. on occasion that's by way of a loss of religion, brought about via doubts brought about via something they have study. one in each of my brothers replaced into like that, however he has considering come decrease back to Church. He did no longer choose for to tell me approximately his doubts by using fact he had grow to be confident that there replaced into no answer to his doubts, and he did no longer choose for to burden me along with his doubts. that's in basic terms too undesirable he did no longer communicate over with me, by using fact there is often an answer. part of his subject although replaced into that he replaced into searching for a reason to no longer bypass on a challenge, and "blindly" stick to the occasion of his older brothers. It replaced into in part a satisfaction situation. I even have an concept approximately people who go away the Church and declare it replaced into by using fact of knowledge. They fall into 3 communities. (a million) some are easily puzzled via the arguments of adult adult males. (2) some look for data the Church isn't authentic, yet deep down they understand the authentic reason replaced into they have been offended or they felt in charge approximately their sins. (3) And others don't understand their very own motives. In a psychology classification I as quickly as took I heard of an engaging test bearing directly to this third team. someone in yet another psychology classification replaced into hypnotized and given a placed up-hypnotic suggestion. The hypnotized student replaced into informed that as quickly as the instructor coughed the student could get up from his seat and open the window to the lecture room. He does no longer undergo in suggestions something he replaced into informed while hypnotized. He replaced into then awaken from his hypnotic trance and informed to bypass decrease back to his seat. the student remembered no longer something of what he replaced into informed on an identical time as hypnotized. the instructor after a couple of minutes coughed, and the student have been given up and opened the window. Now here is the factor of this tale. while asked why he opened the window his suggestions immediately synthetic a reason. He reported he replaced into warm, and surprisingly sufficient his physique proved it via getting pink and sweaty.
