With the addition of "extras" that Christmas brings, like decorations, lights (usually flashing!) on trees, "holiday " smells....there are MANY new things going on right now in your house, even things like family and friends "dropping by, and holiday gatherings can throw your feline friend into a "tizzy" since a cat is such a creature of habit! They LIKE things the same.... (that is why it is hard to change their food, or place to sleep, or move the litter box!)
It sounds as if you just have a very "smart" kitty, one that is very aware of everything in IT'S space (what...you didn't think it was YOUR house, did you?!?) lol!
Some times changes can make a cat seem "hyper" to us...(after all they are usually SOOO self absorbed in in their own comfort, pleasure, and relaxation!)
Actually, they become a little anxious and slightly unsure of all these changes...and so they "act out" just like a child.
I am sure within the next week, when "things" return to normal, you will see your "old cat" return....purring...cozy and comfortable, relaxed... and curling up by the fire...or in his favorite window sill, or your lap!!! ...just as you remember so well!!!
Ahh yes...the LIFE of a cat!!!
So...enjoy your self...he will be okay...and have your self a very Merry Christmas!!!

I have a young cat that is the same way and I know nothing is wrong with mine. At 1 year your cat is still a youngster and builds up energy that he relieves through outrageous bursts of speed. Having a floor to ceiling cat tree where the cat can climb and play is one of the best ways for them to work off the excess energy. As your cat ages, he will calm down.
Another method is by having a second cat who will give the first plenty of exercise through play.

Most cats (especially the first four I raised) act like this around their age group or sooner. Maybe he just needs to catch up to the activity he didn't have as a younger kitten. My youngest cat's almost three and he's still a total lunatic, but half the time, he's a total sweetheart in a lovey-dovey and peaceful mood. I don't think there's a problem or anything. I would think it's normal.

Your cat is playing, all cats play when they are feeling good. The weather has a lot to do with it also,if it is hot they will lay around and do nothing but if it is cool they like to play. I have ten cats and they mostly go outside during the day but at night they come inside and they play fight and run around and just are all around holly terrors, but they are just playing and having fun.there is nothing wrong. Buy it some toys like little mice or balls you can get them at almost any store in the pet department.Just let the cat play.

It could be like what I'm experiencing with our cats. Maybe its the Christmas tree, they keep staring at it and seem to like it. Perhaps they think we're a little loony for bringing a tree into the home, so they feel they have the right to be a little loony too!!!
Who knows... still gotta love 'em.

He's is still very young. It's probably the excitement of the holidays, animals can pick up on the slightest bit of excitement and react to it. Don't worry, he'll be fine!
