We live life. There maybe situations where we have choice but sometimes we have no choice. We are definitely not pawns because we have choice. In this case,you may choose to conclude that life is a sham. This is very close to saying that life is suffering (Buddhist).
What we know is where we have been and our destination, death. The time between are fill with choices. Hopefully we will choose wisely and learn when we don't.

I don't know if it is a scam but I do know that many of us are pawns. Who actually thinks for themselves? People like machines are programmable. I am terrified by this. It is so easy to manipulate people. Look at how everyone has been programmed to accept abortion for example. I do not need Jesus or Buddha or anything to tell me that killing our unborn is wrong. Yet the people through systematic societal program have now accepted this abomination as not only ok but in some cases admirable.
