In Genesis 3:14, the LORD says to the serpent; Because thou hast done this (that is deceived Eve, which inturn caused Adam to disobey God) thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

Does this mean that the serpent at one time walked about "upright" on "two" legs and could "talk" until God split his tongue and put him on his belly?

That's what it is supposed to mean, but it's a metaphor. Not to be taken literally as most do.

While the Bible is not clear as to whether or not the serpent stood up or walked before it the curse it appears likely that like other reptiles it probably did walk on four legs. That would seem to be the best explanation of Genesis 3:14, “The LORD God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, Cursed are you more than all cattle, And more than every beast of the field; On your belly you will go, And dust you will eat All the days of your life.”

The fact that the serpent was cursed to crawl on his belly and eat the dust of the earth forever is also a way if indicating that the serpent would be forever despised and looked upon as a vile and despicable creature and an object of scorn and contempt. Why did God curse the serpent when He knew that it was actually Satan who had led Adam and Eve into sin? The fate of the serpent is an illustration. The curse of the serpent will one day be the fate of Satan himself (Revelation 20:10; Ezekiel 28:18-19).

Yes. Even Today one can see very small appendages at the base of some Snake's Tails.

Also note that it didn't startle Eve to be spoken to by a Serpent. What does that say about the relationship Man had with Pre - Fall Animals ?

I AM SURE YOU WILL NOT UNDERSTAND THIS BUT ANYWAY.
First the 'serpent's is not to be understood in the way the Bible present its. The 'serpent's (wisdom) is a symbol for the Kundalini Energy sleeping at the base of one's spine. When 'involuted' you debase one's self (below animals). When the energy is 'evoluted'( raised to the top on ones head) and returned to 'Source' then you become Divine (enlightened)
Unlike the propaganda of the Church the serpent was sent by God to assist mankind to become Self Conscious. Before our friendly messenger the 'serpent' (also know as Lucifer .. the 'Light Bearer') was sent to Man he did not have Self Consciousness. (To know God as SELF!). This is what the words "I AM" are about. This is why Jesus prefaced all important statements with those two words.
Unless you are an 'enlightened' Being there is no way to read the Bible and 'glean' the TRUTH.

Yes it does mean that, but consider further. If, as we have been led to believe, the serpent was really Satan in disguise, why would ANY God punish serpents for it by removing their limbs? Does this mean that if Satan had pretended to be human, God would have punished us by making US slither around on our bellies? Like so much other stuff, it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

this may mean a reference that man has become serpent, or the spirit of the serpent has become into man. Man afterall is sinful by nature and may have become this way because of adam's "bad choices..." But then again, we all make "bad choices" every so often, don't we?

Yes. Amazing isn't it. It also implies that snakes (and by logical extension, all animals) have free will, are capable of sin and are subject to punishment for that sin. Do they have their little animal bible that they read to determine what is acceptable behavior and what isn't? Also, where is the fairness of punishing an entire species for eternity for the sin of a single snake? Alas, if only I had the wisdom of a christian to make sense of it all.

I think so,I think it is wrong to think a creepy snake crawled up to Eve,and she trusted him when God ans Adam were right there in the same garden.God said He was the most subtle beast he had created.

Well, Satan was "in" the serpent. So the snake could walk at one point, but I doubt it could talk. But if God or Satan wanted it to, I guess it could.
