Do you find it annoying that people who are generally mean and nasty suddenly appear to be nice at Christmas time? I find it an empty gesture since if they have this ability why don't they use it all the time? You just know that come January everyone will be back to being miserable, and nothing will have changed.

Any goodness should be honored and celebrated regardless the reason.

Choose happiness.

I am split. I am disgusted by the people who are complete misers and are just rude and mean during the year and then act like they are saints during Christmas. I find this to be the most empty. However, most people are generally good people with bad moments. They tend to be better around Christmas because there is so much happiness in the air that it is hard to be ill-willed. I wish that this happiness and generosity could continue all year round but unfortunately I think it's practically impossible.

No, what annoys me is the fact that every year people get worse and worse. The time of goodwill seems to be disappearing.
What ever happened to being kind simply because it's, well, kind.

No, it causes a wee tear to come out at the corner of my eye, as I sift through rubbish beneath the bridge, and the roar of the traffic above us, and the thought of people wishing merry Christmases, and all the glorious music and the lights downtown and in the neighborhoods, and another wee tear is squeezed out and sits upon my cheek. Oh I am dismayed that you do not yet feel the joy.

If your point is that 'goodwill towards each other' should be year round, not just at Christmas, I agree with you.
May you receive an unmistakable pleasant surprise today!!

I really cannot say that I have noticed any difference in people. Maybe it is because I am just around a few Christian friends (most of the people I am around are Jews and Muslims)-I just do not see that my friends are any different, and I am not out in the public that much.

You are quite right. The same way people feel better giving to charity after a huge natural disaster but are perfectly willing to let people starve the rest of the time. People do things to make it easier to ignore the things they don't.

Is it possible someone will change? Don't forget the story of Scrooge.----better to practice one day a year than never.
