Lengthen your attention span! When I was in high school, I would get bored and stop paying attention, once I got to college, and had to pay for books, classes, etc....I was amazed at how focused I became to ensure that I didn't have to take the class again! I even started tutoring it in the Student Service Center, which might be another option if your school offers those services. Start with Intermediate Algebra instead of jumping straight into College Algebra, you can still use it as an elective credit if I'm not mistaken, and it will prepare you with the groundwork for the next course. Lastly, if you start with Intermediate, and try really hard, then your Professor will likely try to help you get the skills to pass the class. If you find a good Professor, then take the him or her again for College Algebra so that they already know you struggle, but are trying! Good luck!

In many maths textbooks you can get excellent worked-out examples.

Do them.
