To the world, which the God I believe in would be pleased anyway, but on the other hand, most who are pleasing to their God, are definitely not pleasing their world.

I believe that God wants us to live our lives and not worry about Him. We are here to learn something. When this life is over we will cross over and He will be there.
It is never better to put your life in the hands of a book that was written by men 2000 or so years ago. Use common sense and rely on yourself.
Do you think that God would make stupid rules and then send you to an eternity in "hell" if you broke them? No, that is absurd.

Pleasing to God. That's one of the reasons we
humans are here. That's was we're suppose
to, but not every human does that. Some are
just so busy praising the world and/or themselves and not leaving any room to praise
God, and that's terribly wrong.

If you strive to please God, that way the bible says (by #1, loving the Lord your God with all you heart, and #2 by loving your neighbor as you love yourself) you will be doing the very best for this world!

Pleasing God is our primary goal.
Think of it this way:
A child is faced w/ a decision to make: go w/ the flow and do whatever w/ thier friends (peer pressure stuff) OR they can do what they know thier father would want them to do...according to they way they were raised.
Helpful?
Be Blessed.

From the standpoint of God, He is already pleased. From the standpoint of the world, It is better to be pleased than pleasing.

I'd ask first to whom do you owe your existence. Was it the world of humanity which cannot even bring a speck of dust out of nothing? If you doubt the existence of the Creator what have you done to investigate, to use the gift of your mind to examine possible evidence to find the truth no matter what it may turn out to be?

It depends on your set of beliefs. To me, pleasing God is what matters.
