Which is better? Chevy or Ford? Porsche or BMW? Mercedes or Lexus? Nikon or Canon? These are all unanswerable questions as they are all "the best" in their class, depending who you ask.
If you have no personal preference, perhaps you would do best by going with the recommendation of your local camera shop pro or a friend who has something that he/she likes. If you have someone who is willing to help you learn how to use a particular camera, add ten points to that brand in your decision making process.
Please post a new question. Tell us how much you want to spend, what you plan to use the camera for most of the time, and what your prior experience is with photography. With this information, we will be much more helpful to you.

There is no ONE best brand in cameras. All you need to know about brands you have from answers above. I love my Sony.
I'd say there are 4 best brands in Nikon, Canon, Olympus and Sony. AND there are certain features you may like in another brand as I saw,so I wound up buying my daughter a 5MP Fugi camera.

Either Canon or Nikon. They are THE top 2 imo. But you really should read up on consumer report sites like CNET or camera sites like dpreview.com. Even Amazon.com for user comments help too.

Canon is the ONLY name in digital cameras. I just purchased my fifth as a gift. They are easy to use, have great quality, and are reasonably priced.

For point-and-shoot, Panasonic and Canon are my favorites, and for Digital SLR's, Nikon is my favorite. This is a matter of opinion, not facts. It all depends on what features and styles are preferable to you.

Depends on what you want to do. Here is a good website I've used in the past with some reviews.
