The way I understand the words is that religion is external while spirituality is internal.

So, for example when a Christian goes to church and listens to their minister preaching to them, I think that is religion. It's someone saying "do this, believe this, this is the truth" and the person on the recieving end believing it.

Whereas, if that person goes on a trip to a beautiful place, like some impressive mountains or whatever, and they feel moved by it, they feel the "presence of God" or "holy spirit" or whatever they choose to call it, I think that is spirituality because it's an individual thing.

Spirituality is essence; its our natural state of being that leads us to seek greater understanding of who we are and why we are here. Relgion is the result of man's attempt to give structure and order to our spiritual essence, thus taking away the fear of the unkown. Its is said that the human Soul does not need a religion, but the human ego does.

I think religion is an attempt to organize spirituality. Spirituality is a more primal impetus and religion can serve a useful purpose, as long as it does not repress the individual.-------Some may not realize that a spiritual individual may pursue truth religiously, and form a personal 'religion'.

Religion is the guidance towards life, whereas spirituality is just like our soul which is invisible and could not be described the only thing is we can feel it.

Ok...this is the way I break it down:

I associate religion w/ traditions of man (run far, far away from this one!)

Being spiritual means having a personal relationship w/ God. (Choose this one. Choose Life.)

Be Blessed.

Religion; The beliefs, attitudes, emotions, behavior, etc.,constituting mans relationship with God. Spirit is the essence of our being, unconditional love, the life that animates our bodies. "God dwells within you as you." It seems most religious people live on the physical level, the level of Law, Cause & effect or Karma.Actions in thought, word and deed. Believing themselves to be sinners. Not accepting that they are baptized into spirit, fulfilling law. No more a sinner but being one with God in unconditional love within their hearts. having their being in Gods loving will. As the colors of the rainbow have their being in pure sunlight, no more divided.
